Hi all,

Have any of you guys got one of these lenses and can tell me what you think to it or if you've had one and what your thoughts of it were?

I'm looking at a lens which offers great subject isolation and bokeh for wildlife photography, along with amazing IQ and this is reasonably priced compared to a lot of the more expensive primes such as the 400 2.8 etc. You can pick a used one up for circa £2k, and apparently they're very good with both Canon TC extenders from what I've been reading ?

It's up there with the best of them....I used mine for 10 years without it missing a beat. I've recently replaced it with the MkII as Canon discontinued support for the MkI at the end of last year....something that you should factor into your decision when spending £2k on one

recently bought a used one.. I had one for a few years then sold it to help fund the 400mm ... Always yearned for it back... about a month ago I bought one for £2k from london camera exchange and got 6mths warranty... OMG its pin sharp at f2.8 at any distance on a football pitch... fantastic lens....... from a two times owner :) wont replace my 400mm though haha.. but a much needed lens for certain jobs..

just be aware not suported by canon anymore but theres plenty of other people who fix lens if any problems...

I've never owned or used the first version.
I have been fortunate enough to use the mk2 version on a couple of occasions and it is optically brilliant.

As for wildlife photography, in truth, and depending on what you mean by wildlife, I feel it's a bit on the short side. This is noticeable on full frame, not so much on apsc.
