Canon 24-70mm 2.8 Mark 1 - Error 01 - Has anyone had their ribbon replaced?

I have a Canon 24-70mm 2.8 mk1 - bought new in 2012 - tonight popping it onto my camera it came up with an error 01 - can't communicate clean the contacts - but would happily shoot at 2.8 - just not at any narrower aperture. From a bit of research it appears as though it's likely to be the ribbon cable inside the lens that controls the aperture blades. First question - has anyone had this before, and had their ribbon replaced - and second question - anyone know if Canon are still servicing the mark 1 24-70?

The MkI is still valid for CPS membership levels so it's still serviceable.
