Yes
I'm thinking of getting the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L, which is by all accounts superb. It costs at least £900 new and not much less for used, is it worth it or is the Sigma version worth getting at less than half the price? I was very happy with the Sigma 10-20mm I had but I'm aware that their quality-control is questionable and I might get a lemon (particulaly if I buy off Ebay I imagine). So do I pay for guaranteed quality or take a chance?

Can you "happily" part with the money for the Canon? If yes - go for it; it's superb.

If you can afford the Canon, then go for it. The Sigma is a great lens for it's price, but in terms of optical performance the L version outshines it by a fair bit. But I guess that's what you'd expect given the price difference!

Echo what most people have said, i bought the older version of this lens several years back, was great......but the Canon is stunning. First L lens i owned, and because of that I have replaced all but 2 of my lenses with the L series glass. The lens makes huge difference to shooting, and 24-70 is one of the most used lenses i own. Only when the IS version (hopefully) comes out will i replace it. If you need the F2.8 in that range, without a doubt it is the best there is. There is a huge price gap, but if you are anything like me, in a few months, maybe a year you will look at it and think....hmmmmmm, what if i trade it in and get the Canon afterall

I have owned both. Started with the Sigma and then, when funds allowed, I purchased the Canon. The Sigma is good but the Canon is in a different league altogether and I would recommend one if you can afford/justify the added expenditure.

Ive had the sigma as well, a bit nosy on the focus, and is prone to hunting in low light close up. where as the canon just does it.

The Canon is a better lens - after using the sigma for a short time it had to go.. the Canon is better in every way

That sigma 10-20 must be some serious bit of glass if it is much better than Canons pro line of Lenses

The autofocus on the Canon is a far more responsive than 'any' sigma lens I have owned or used
dont get me wrong Sigma make some really great Lenses but no one will convince me that the 24-70 siggy is in the same league as the Canon version

I cant comment on Sigma or others ...but Canon is an awesome chunk of glass would never let mine go :thumbs:
