Canon 24/105L lens error

Hi all.

I have the above lens and use it on a Canon 6d. I have had them both from new since 2014.

Out of the blue yesterday the camera threw up th error code (err 01) which tells you to clean the contacts.

I have done this and it does not resolve the issue.

The equipment as not been dropped.

I have other lenses all primes these work ok.

Just wondering if there is anything else I should check or maybe some other folk on here have had the same issues.

I'm based in Manchester so if it needs a repair "if fixable" recommends would be most welcome.

My thoughts too, there's a number of Canon approved service companies as well as the main Canon one in Elstree. Lehman in Stoke is one, one in Glasgow sorry can't recall their name, plus Fixation in London.

Many thanks. I'll have to look into the cost of any repairs. As they seem to come up on here for sale quite regularly.

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and the camera.

Thanks I cleaned the contacts on the lens. Did a little clean of the camera ones but being as the other lenses work ok I assumed it was the lens that was at fault.

Worth a try unfortunately it didn’t work. I had the same error on a different lens several years ago. Cleaning worked a few times but then failed. Difficult decision whether to repair or replace. I would buy a replacement secondhand from one of the major retailers as they give a good warranty.

If yours is in good nick then it must be worth getting repaired. I imagine it will be around £150 to get it fixed and they will give a warranty whereas a good used one is going to be in the region of £350 plus.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the guide on pricing. The lens is in good enough condition.
Good point regarding a warranty.
