hi does anyone shoot sports with a canon 20d? was thinking of getting one but just wanted to see peoples opinions.

I have done - its a bit dated now but it will still do the job (ive recently upgraded to a 40D but still have a 20D as a back up )

I used a 10d for a long time.. the 20d is better :)

I guess it depends on your expectations and needs. It's a decent piece of kit. I had one for a few years and kinda wish I hadn't sold it. What kind of sport are you looking to use it for and what are your needs?

The 20D is a good camera and can produce some cracking pics, but it does have a couple of draw backs...

It's low light capability isn't great (ie how much noise appears at high ISO levels) and the rear screen is a bit small.

If you can stretch to a 30D (essentially the same camera but with a 3" LCD screen) you'd be a bit better off.

If you're mainly going to be using it in decent light, then there's absolutely no reason that you can't produce perfectly usable shots with either.

I'm still using both as remote cameras.

Hi. I still use mine - bit short on pixels, but works fine for me :)

Depends what glass you put on the front. The 20D still a great camera, use on as a 2nd body, but it was my main camera for quite a few years. As said, 8mp, so you can't crop into the image, ISO usable upto 800, forget about fps unless you have a 1D series camera (shutter lag), but its a great camera and for £100-200, you get alot of camera for the money.

The 30D didn't offer anything (apart from being newer), the 40D was ISO performance and so on with 50 and 60D, better ISO performance and more MPs

The only downside is the 20D shutter life was about 50,000 actuations, so a new shutter might be on the cards, unless already replaced, but personally I still enjoy using it for wildlife, aviation and motorsport.

50k actuations, huh? I'll have to check mine. I reckon is been twice round that already!

50k, dont say that, ive had mine for over a year and taken arround 45k pictures roughly. I use mine with a 70-200 f4 and it still gives me some amazing results, i mainly shoot motorsport which you can see if you look back over my previous threads.

its an average expectancy not a maximum - I had one 20D fail at less than 20K , and another one go on to over 110K (it probably would have done more had i not fallen out of a RhiB with it round my neck)

:plusone: It's a decent camera for this price. But you'd really prefer to go for a 30D with a bigger screen.
