Hi I have just been quoted £518 to replace the shutter on my 1dxmkIII ..it hasnt gone yet but at 678k am thinking of pre empting fate :)

Please dont just list companies you think can do this:) is there anywhere you know for sure will do a replacement? I dont want to use canon elstree :)

At the risk of annoying you, because I don't know FOR SURE, it's probably worth asking AJ Johnstone of Glasgow as they are an approved Canon repairer and spares supplier. There's a web contact form to get an estimate.

Any Canon authorised repairer should be absolutely capable of this as it is still within service date.

Can I ask why you don't like Elstree?

I just want the shutter replaced.. the cameras worked hard.. elstree will fix every tiny little thing they can find and charge premium... they will only return it in like new condition and you dont get the choice :(

I have filled in the form ta :)

Juts want to see if anyones cheaper than 518 as it does seem steep

I looked for Lehmans a couple of weeks ago and I'm fairly certain they have closed down.

It is your money at the end of the day. Money that 1) doesn't yet need to be spent 2) money that is best put to even a used R6 which is practically same sensor and does everything and more although you have to make do with horrible form factor and pretty rudimentary EVF. Still I wouldn't even consider 1DX3 today. The horse has bolted.

Not for sport. The R6II perhaps but not the original. The 1DxIII is streets ahead of it.

So now the shutter has gone... fixation say no longer supported...hmmm looks like I am stuck with it :(

Not surprisingly, given their current standard of service, Fixation are talking out of their posterior - or should be.

The 1DxIII is still in service date. Even the 1DxII is still in service until July this year.

Try Thomas's (https://www.thecameracentre.com/) or (yes, I'm going to say it) Elstree. Because the cost of repair is
going to be less than the value of the camera (once working).

At further risk of annoying you, there is an independent repair place in Wooton under Edge: Don Clark. Might be worth a chat. They are very fair and do what they say they will do when they say they will do it.

Definitely worth fixing then. MPB are selling a knackered 1DxIII (the only one that they have on sale)
with 775k n the clock and a broken shutter for almost £1,000.

Get the shutter fixed and you could clear a grand on that camera without breaking sweat.

Or you could just send it to me!

Gone post office this morning... Will update in case anyone else has one go as I am sure will at some point.

Ask them to send the old shutter back if they are not broken in removal. They might be useful some time.

Deffo selling when it comes back,, Yes high shutter count but new shutter. fully serviced tested and checked by a canon service center with 6 mths guarantee should get me 1k+ even if it is a bit scuffed :)

It needs newer glass than I have... It doesn't work as well on my old mk1 300 2.8 IS as it would on a mk2 or 3 and I cant afford new glass so stick to 1dx i think as they are proving to be as much as i need nowerdays :)

Its going...

Works as it should do.. however

As some may know.. a 1dxmkIII will not perform to its full potential with old glass and after I got rid of most of mine I am left with a tack sharp but old 300 2.8 IS which doesnt like the mk3

I know from experience the MK2 doesnt have the same problem

So MPB have offered me 1100 and in return I am purchasing an almost brand new (only 4 thousand actuations) 1dx mk 2 that will perform better on my old glass

What is it about the 1DXiii and your ‘old’ 300mm that doesn’t hit the mark?

Cant get the shutter speed. .. I had a simmilar 400 2.8 and its was sluggish at 2.8 and went downhill the more i closed it.. 4f and above slow.... Simmilar wiht 300... I used to have a 1dx 2 and no problem... I do a lot of ice hockey and i can tell the dfference ..

I then got a 400 mk3 and it was massive faster ... million miles different

I can tell you the exact speed but my 1dx are miles faster :)

Its a known thing... i guess new and old technology dont get on.

Sorry to be thick, but is that shutter speed or frame rate?

from google ai

The 1D X Mark III has a high-performance shutter (500,000 actuation rating), but older glass can cause "laggy" or slow performance, often characterized by the camera taking longer to "confirm" focus before allowing a shot.

The low price of used 1DXs seems almost criminal for such fine cameras. Sign of the times given mirrorless cameras and great news for those buying older equipment.

Bargain I would bite your hand off at that price!

Intresting to hear about the old glass on the 1Dx II being better, I've been running a 400mm f/2.8 (pre IS lump) on a 1Dx II 895k original shutter for years now never which never has let me down
