Just recieved my camera back this week so decided to go out and take some shots, first thing how can i tell if it is performing like it should.

The next thing is (I feel a bit daft asking this question) say you are looking through the viewfinder and you press the shutter button to compose and focus the shot (in single shot mode auto focus and Manual mode) say it is a car reg 20mt away (lens 70x200l is 2.8 usm ) should it focus and show you the sharp image in the view finder. As I say I thought it did , but I might be losing the plot. AS I was looking through the viewfinder and press the shutter button and the focus lights flash but the car reg did not appear to be sharper.

I have taken about 15 thousand pics with this camera and I can not explain the mixup.

Good tip natjag - I was taking photos of ships yesterday and the first few looked way out of focus even though I was getting the focus beep. Took several more and began to think I was in trouble, then I noticed that the info along the bottom edge of the viewfinder was also way out focus - impossible! - and the penny dropped - yes, the dioptre adjustment had been dragged out of whack when pulling the gear out of the bag. Panic over!.

thank god someone else gets that, I knock it all the time and it freaks the hell out of me until I twig, every dammed time :D
