Having recently changed to a 1DmkIII and being advised that the custom functions can make or break the performance of this camera, I thought I would share my settings after a successful trial run at the Mach Loop. Be very interested in other users custom function settings and reasoning behind choosing them plus good/bad experiences with certain function settings.
So here is how I have setup mine so far;
C.Fn I Exposure
No2 - 1 1-Stop, to only use real ISO settings
No7 - 1 Enable spot meter to use active AF point
No8 - 2 Safety shift on ISO, pseudo auto ISO when limiting shutter and/or aperture range
C.Fn III Group Auto Focus/Drive
No2 - Tracking Sensitivity - set at lowest sensitivity
No3 - 0 this sets AF as the priority for the 1st image in a burst and then the subsequent tracking of it as the priority
No4 - 0 main focus track priority, read that Continuous can adversely affect AF performance
No8 - 1 enables left/right assist points
No9 - 3 19 points selectable by Multi Controller
No16 - Reduce high speed frame rate to 7fps to assist AF accuracy
Anyone found a good setup for aviation/motorsport or landscapes? What's worked well and what to avoid?
