Good afternoon all!

Unfortunately, both my Canon 1D MkIV and Canon 1D Mk III have let me down. Both have suffered breakdown brought on by - I assume - being out in the rain at a job last night.

The MkIV has already been posted off to Canon for what is expected to be a £400+ repair (none of the screens working, seems to be water damage - main PCB?). But to my amazement they won't touch the MkIII now as it is 'too old', despite it still being a widely-used body (Err 80 being thrown up, but seems to be working perfectly otherwise).

I was pointed in the direction of 2 repair companies by Canon CPS who have both advised they can't assist.

Can anyone recommend any other options? Insurance won't pay out, so I am stuck with a half-working, looked after MkIII which I can't seem to get repaired! Crazy.

TIA.

I will follow with interest as I have 2 x MK111 - one being good and the other needing some tlc

Wish I never got the MK 3 now. I`m guessing that any repair or service of any kind is replied to with "too old"

I have used Don Clark who did what he said, when he said at a price he said. He is in Wootton on Edge in Gloucestershire. I don't know if he will fix this or whether you are too far away but worth a try, I would say.

Wotton-under-edge :)

Hi folks just to update you... I've spoken to at least 4 different companies now we are all basically saying it's dead, nothing can be done.

So a bit of a word of warning for any MkIII owners out there... if it goes wrong that's the end of the road.

I'm absolutely gutted as everything is working - lights, buttons, noises, screens, focusing. Just as soon as you go to hit the shutter it throws up an Err 80. Gutted.

have you tried drying it out or using remote shutter button instead of the on body shutter buttons.

what are you going to do with it

Have you tried speaking to Miles Whitehead?

He repairs old and new cameras. I've had a Canon EF 50 f/1.4 lens, Canon A-1, and Olympus OM-1 seviced/fixed by him. and was very happy with the service he provided at a reasonable price as well.

Yep tried drying it out. Don't have a remote shutter for it unfortunately, but from what everyone has been saying it could be a Main PCB issue.

As for what I'm going to do with it... nothing I can do. I've spoken to Canon, Fixation, Euro Hi Tech, H. Lehmann and Thomas Cameras and they all say they can't repair it.

Thanks for that link to MW Camera Repairs. I'll send an email but I'm guessing if none of the others will touch it, he won't either :/

if i rem right i think ajjohnstone in glasgow carry old stock some times they may be worth a shot
