Both cameras are around the £300 mark second hand....Cant really decided which one ? I was all for the D1 but then got offered a 5D for £280...
Which would you guys say is a better camera for the money ?

I had both, sold the 5D and got a 5D mk3 as it now does everything I want. Back to the OP, the5D mk1 will give you morre detailed better coloured photos and probably 1 stop less noise. The 1D (mk2 - which I still have) will give you an archaic button menu system but is built like a brick outhouse, superb Af and frame rate (as has been stated) and great battery life at the cost of size and weight. It will also lengthen your lens as its 1.3 crop factor so if wide angle is your thing then you'll get a wider view with a 5D. Neither camera accept ef-s lenses, so no difference there. I think (from memory) the 5D had a better rear screen but tbh both are good cameras and checking focus etc on the rear screen is a waste of time, neither was really good enough for that, possibly the 5D screen edged it (just).
Both are/were good cameras but have different uses tbh, in my view only the 5D3 does both jobs. I loved my Mk1 and I still use my 1D2 occasionally, if I had to choose 1 I think it would have been impossible (sorry) as they just do different jobs, so narrow down what you want the camera for and decide on that basis, unless you have small hands then it wil lhave to be the 5D :)

Oh yeah and the 1D will centre focus with an F8 (or equivalent e.g. f4 + 2x TC) lens the 5D mk 1 wont AF at all.
