Yes
I was trawling about the net last week, when I decided to look into purchasing a Canon 1D Mark2. To my delight I came across a business portal for the far east etc. I put in the keywords such as Canon, 1D etc andthis supplier came up.
As it happens this portal has a live talk facility. I spoke to a representitive of the company who was selling the canon. I was quoted......wait for it.............£650.00st. My eyes nearly popped out of my head. After taking a deep breath I asked the lady why was it so cheap, and she informed me that It was a COPY, I was stunned! I was told that it would be very difficult to tell the difference.

Do we really know what we are buying now?

I would love to see this copy. They might be able to make look like a 1D MKII, but surely it would be a mighy hard job to copy the electronics and optics etc.

I managed to get a picture of it...

:lol::lol:

How clear was her English. Maybe something was lost in translation. Maybe a refurb or used? Still stupidly cheap of course but still. I can't imagine how a copy is possible and if it was why they would be so open about it.. I don't think it's "copy" TBH

Nope, her words to me in "Live Chat"-" It is my duty to tell you that this is a copy", there was definitely no misunderstanding.
I have to say though part of me was intrigued by all of this, and I did wonder what the standard of photograph from this would be like. Oh, now I remember, she did mention a reducement in Mp to something like 5-6million

Nothing would surprise me with the far east, they're copying everything these days. I recently bought a Motorola handsfree earpiece from ebay. It had severely reduced functionality compared to the real thing and a battery charge life of about 20 minutes, but you couldn't tell it from the genuine article when placed side by side.

Same happens with power tools all the time, usually from China.

Makita, Bosch and Dewalt have all been victims of this. To people buying them they look like the real thing. I've seen them, someone was selling them out of one of the builders merchants I worked at a while ago's car park (they got arrested). Quailty is generally p**s poor and they last about 10 minutes before they go wrong and are worthless.

Happens all the time, which is why it's always worth checking stuff is genuine. Specially from the far east etc.

Nice one Bob, looks like the canon brain is sharper and quicker than the nikon brain. :lol: :lol::p
