Hi

Is there anyone who has recently upgraded from the Mk III to the MKIV?

I'm just wondering how it performs in comparison?

Thanks

Dave

All round worth the upgrade... I had 2 mkIIIs and now have one mkIII and one mkIV .. the mkIII doesnt get used unless doing x2 camera work (long and short prime)

Still on the learning curve of using the Mk IV but so far would say it is a big improvement over the Mk III. Whilst I am now used to the IQ of the Mk IV the initial reaction was wow! much better and justified the ug.

You guys haven't said why it's an improvement. I too am interested in knowing... so what makes it better?

iso is massivly better.. I do a lot of indoor and floodlight photography.. the improvement is worth the upgrade alone for me... But the extra mega pixels (probably burn in hell for saying it) helps as well.. i use prime lens and extra MP lets me crop in more.. like zoom:)

but the biggest improvemnt is.. it more stable.. i still take 2 shots of everyhting with the mkIII but am more confident of a shot in one wiht the mkIV

more stable in what sense? better AF or did the mark III frequently crash like a computer?

A/F,Noise handling, focus point linked to orientation of camera,Auto ISO,Screen Resolution the list of improvements is endless and it now makes an excellent all round camera regardless of shooting subjects or style.

stable as in.. point at man stood still.. get focus.. take shot... and its a million miles out of focus as is everyhting in the picture... didnt happen all the time but enough for me to make sure i took at least 2 of everything... the mkIII is a bit crappy for my liking and it was a guranteed no problem model sent from canon..

My Mk3 had the AF repaired and in general, is good, some shots in a sequence would be out of focus, but if it was a sequence of 3-5 photos, didn't really matter!

But Mk4 is awesome for it's focusing and image quality. This shot:-

Other than I forgot to straighten the horizon, when you zoom into the boat, the drivers name on the side of the boat is clear as anything!

Auto ISO is a nice feature that I saw on Nikons and thought I'd like to see that, it works well and noise is very low (not done anything worth showing yet).

It's files are larger but LR handles them ok!

And coming from a Mk3, means that most of the learning curve of basic operations is identical or almost identical.

Carl.

Thanks guys for all your thoughts, sounds like it's a big improvement on the mark III

Better start saving

Thanks and interesting info.

Canon acknowledged and fixed the faulty AF on these though didn't they?

You could check this thread where I do a quick comparison between the 1DIII and 1DIV.

Safe to say, the IV is my primary camera and the III is the backup. Bigger, better quality, sharper images, better high ISO, faster operation, lots of nice small things like focus point orientation change between portrait and landscape, better rear screen etc.

they fixed mine last year and now ....it's fine for weddings but my wildlife I have to work on /sharpen alot...
my 5d mk1 is sharper than the mk3
looking at a mk4 after this season.....was even thinking of nikon but I have so much canon kit,
got to go for the mk4 really :cuckoo: :shake:
