Hi, which is the better lens, the canon 18-135mm or the 18-200mm? both have the same wide angle capability and both have IS, but does the 200mm end come at the cost of IQ?
I had considered it but heard that for such a large focal range there is a sacrifice and that it gets quite soft at either end, what are your observations?
I would sooner lose the extra range if it means that the IQ is better?
Can't comment on the 18-135mm but I had the 18-200mm from new, was not happy with it at all. Yes the zoom was really handy to have and get the shot you want, however the quality of image from the lens doesn't really leave much to be desired.
With any zoom that goes such a range ur going to sacrifice IQ. There isn't a do it all lens with the best IQ with no pro/cons, 18-200 18-270 pro: grate range, u don't have to change lens. cons: poorer IQ than lets say 17-55 or 24-70 or 15-85 or 24-105 and so on. I believe that the 18-135 is as good as the kit lens (18-55) IQ wise but if ur after better IQ than kit lens than look elsewhere. Any of the ones I mentioned above are some of the best lenses out there.
18-135mm stm lens is much sharper than the older 18-135mm. Great walkabout lens. Although sometimes you would like more zoom, I do prefer to know that I'm getting a sharp image. Silent auto focus is nice as well.
