Hi there,

First of all I apologise if I am posting in the wrong forum, but that is the best one I could find for that.

My question is that, my canon 18-135 lens has stopped auto focusing. Actually I dropped the lens once and after that the lens couldn't zoom in or out, it was stuck. I applied some force and it started working. However, it has broken some motor inside. and lens cannot auto focus at all and even manual focus doesn't come clear as well.

Now, I need to ask is it a better option to buy another lens, since I heard that repairing would be expensive. Any idea *approximately* how much the repairing would cost me? I am based in England.

Shall I try repairing myself? been watching few videos on YouTube to repair that. lol

regards

The 18-135 is not a particularly expensive lens, it is often supplied as a kit lens for the enthusiast cameras. It's the lens I actually keep on my camera and had very good service from.

I would try and find a second hand one on ebay or elsewhere, you can get them for around £150 or so.

I would expect that trying to fix it would require parts and then calibration which may be difficult to do yourself.

On top of the potential costs and difficulties of repairing it yourself, Sod's law dictates that it would then break down at the least convenient time and place. I'm not a Canon user so can't recommend any particular replacement or upgrade, although this sounds like a good excuse for some GAS!

replacement of focus motors will probably exceed secondhand market value of a replacement.

put yours on Ebay as spares/repair and buy another/something else.
oh okay..

Btw, are Tamron Lenses any good? They are cheaper and look promising as well..
