Now i know both of these are great lenses however i am in a muddle... i dont know which one to decide on.

The canon can be bought for 285 after cashback, whereas the sigma is around £400 for UK stock.

So is the £115 difference between them really worth it? I have heard good things about both the canon and the sigma.

Any words of wizdom out there?

The Canon 100mm f2.8 is really good plenty of people feel it should be an L lens, I use mine with extension tubes, and get really good results, the 150mm will allow you to stand off the subject a bit more, which may mean you can get good shots without frightening away what your trying to shoot

I have the 180mm and find this too long for anything but outdoor shots and am going back to the 100mm. I would say the crop on the 400D would make the 150 pretty much the same so you would have similiar issues.

The 100mm is a 'nice' lens but the 60mm is an absolute dream as both a macro and a portrait lens. What would be your chosen subjects in macro?

I'm using the 100mm for a lot of diff photography at the mo, finding it covers most aspects really well... highly recommended

i just want to do insects and weird looking things, i have no intention to do portrate photography what so ever

i use the 100mm and i love it. add some extension tubes to it aswell and you get some really nice detail on insects and weird stuff.

I'd check the weight on them both. I have the 100mm and its a great, light, and very sharp lens. Its main benifit, for me, is the ability to hand hold it due to the weight, although it usually is best to use your tripod for macro.

And you're all ignoring the incredibly sharp Tamron 90mm Macro? Tsk tsk...;)

I did have a look at the sigma 105 macro lens, however i decided i want something with internal focusing. I also looked at the Tamron however felt that it was a bit too plasticy. There is no one around here that have the Canon or the sigma 150 in stock so i cant feel the weight at all.

The canon can be bought for 285 after cashback, whereas the sigma is around £400 for UK stock.

I got my Canon for £285 + £10 p&p from Kerso last week, and then there is the £40 cashback to come so thats a nice Canon lens for £255

Only thing i dont like about buying from Kerso is what if something goes wrong with the Lens? Theres no shop to take it back to? When its bought localy you can take it back to the shop and they deal with it.
