As a light user myself, the Canon 1000d suits my needs perfectly. I've had mine 3 years now & havn't found the need to upgrade the body. I've bought some more lenses though, a 55-250 & 50mm 1.8.
IMO it's an ideal camera for a beginner/light user.
James,
Notice you are asking about various options on different threads. The best bet maybe to just pick a camera and lens for £200 that you fancy and then get out there and use it for a while. Over thinking it won't change the fact that you are at the budget used end (which is where I live) and whatever camera you pick will do the job but won't be your dream camera
You will not get a camera that doesn't take good pictures and you will not get a camera that you cannot take sufficient control of (not in the DSLR market anyway)
DSLRs haven't changed that much over the last 8 or 10 years (higher ISO and video mainly) and you can take perfectly good pictures with an 8 year old 20D.
That is all very true and thank you for all you advise!! To be honest I have been out of touch with photography for a number of years now and just trying to get my barings. Talking you guys has really helped!
