Hello, very new to all this SLR stuff, I'm just about to buy my first.

I like the 1000D but am a bit confused.

What does the Rebel XS bit mean and is there a difference in camera if the one I'm looking at on Ebay isn't a Rebel XS.

I've made sure it has an IS lens included in the kit and it does, i'm told some don't. It is a new camera but seemed a little cheap so just making sure I'm not making a mistake.

Thanks

Steven

In Europe they call it the 1000D, other countries call it the Rebel XS it's one and the same bar the warrenty. If you buy a Canon body outside the UK you would have to send it back to it's country of origin for repair if it goes wrong.

So if the one I'm buying isn't a Rebel XS then it's a UK model and everythings god on the warranty front? Tremendous, thanks for that.

Now, onto Memory Cards, can you help out with the very confusing world on Memory? Are they all the same, is it just size that is the difference?

They are not the same. Just like a car- you pay for what you get. Usually people prefer a single brand (I like sandisk). Make sure you get the correct type (sd for the 1000d I think), and the best price point is usually about 4gb (cheapest per gb).

Yeah definitely don't skimp on the SD cards, cheap ones won't be such a bargain when they fail and lose all your images. Sandisk and Lexar are the most popular brands and I haven't had a problem with either.

The other problem with cheaper memory is that a cheaper card takes longer to save each picture so you might be waiting around a while for the card to catch up to the camera, the Sandisk ultra range or a Lexar 133x should be fast enough to keep up with your camera .
