Hi,

I have a 100-400mm Canon IS USM and it seems when at 400mm or just under my images are being ruined by a line. At first I thought maybe it's the camera, but appears on my other camera too. It doesn't appear when using at it's widest or zoomed in under 200mm.

Some how I am thinking it has to be inside the lens as I have checked the front of the lens and no sign of any marks etc.

Has anyone else had any problems like this and can it be easily fixed if took to a repair shop?

Thanks

Martin

I had a problem of "images being ruined by a line". Turned out to be caused by a bug in the software that was resizing my images to fit the screen. But such a vague description. A picture is worth a thousand words...

Where's the line? Probably if not happy I'd send the lens off to Canon for a check/service

Can you see the line in the pic on the rear screen on the camera?

A little info for clarification, Martin.

You stated in the first post that it appears on another body and then you later stated that it's okay on another body......what size sensors do these bodies have?

I did another proper check this morning and it is only one camera. 7D crop sensor is the one it shows up on . Other 5D M2 and is fine. Took two photos with the same settings and focal zoom and nothing on the 5D so am hoping just a sensor clean.

Looks like a hair - maybe an eyebrow - on your camera digital sensor.... Get a rocket blower to see if you can shift it.

As Chris has written, a hair or some crud on the sensor. It likely becomes more obvious on the longer end of your 100-400 due to the aperture size decreasing as you move towards 400mm.
