Cannon or nikon?!!

Cannon is a make of cooker isn't it?

Unless you mean Canon... who make photocopiers :-P

Hmmm. What a thread!!

Indeed.

I'm just going by the assumption it is intended as a joke. The alternative is too harrowing to consider :gag:

Depends if you want to take good photo's or photocopy good photo's.

I tried so hard not to reply to this thread!! :bang:

Ok. Seriously, go to a shop and handle some bodies. They differ more than you would expect. I found Canon bodies to be a bit small for my manly hands. :D there I go again!! :bang:
Just do it. I can't continue.

Kev.

Both damn good makes,I went out to buy a Canon as at the time I had a Canon Powershot S3 bridge camera, but on handling the body's I found the Nikon D80 was more to my liking.
It's purely personal choice but whatever you choose will be a path that as you walk further down it,it becomes nearly impossible to change over as you will have a lot of money invested in one system, whichever that may be.

We have our jokes on TP, but the Canon users know Nikons are the dogs b#ll#cks.:naughty:

Kevin, I have the name of a good psychologist if needs.:naughty::nono:

As brands at the moment I'd say Nikon have the edge in terms of bodies with the absolutely phenomenal D800, and solid D7000 and D4 while Canon just edge it for me in lenses with the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 85mm f/1.2L and 135 f/2.0L.

At the lower end they're more or less indistinguishable imo. Canon have greater compatibility with cheap lenses in their cheap cameras e.g. on Nikon you're spending over £100 for any prime that works with a D3200 or D5100 whereas on Canon you have the 50 1.8, but then at the same time Nikon has the lovely 35 1.8 at the low end whereas Canon doesn't really have any answer to that.

pentax!!!!!

Not sure if serious but I'll bite. Not even close. Pentax MF cameras are pretty cool, but with no full frame option it doesn't matter how much K-mount glass you can use, there's no serious application to the Pentax K system as the extreme telephoto end is the only time when crop cameras really outperform full frame cameras, and the only serious telephoto in the Pentax range is the 300 f/4, and 300 is only just about getting to a range where full frame glass would be prohibitively large or expensive.

It's a shame as there are some things they do really well, like build, and I love that they have sensor stabilisation, but without that full frame path I think they'll always lack that professional appeal that does a lot to build up brand awareness and market, which is something they kind of lost with the transition to digital.

Panasonic are doing well! I know the are micro four thirds but just look at the number of people who are now using them.

There's only one way to find out...

Where's Harry Hill when you need him :lol:

Nikon of course.

You could attach a 600mm f4 to a D4 and use that as a heavy duty mallet. Alternatively the 6mm f2.8 fisheye would most likely cause some damage...

If we're going along that sort of route...

Here's a canon cannon that'll trump all

When I am faced with conflicting choices I go for the 3rd party. In this case sigma, or tamron , or Olympus, Sony. :-)

But then if you are into ultra wide angle then Canon have nothing to compare with the 14-24. And others...

The 14-24 and D800 combo is staggeringly good but for portraiture and general people photography be it sports, journalism etc. I'd say Canon have a fairly substantial edge.

Also there's a reasonable chance of Canon bringing out a 14-24 and I'd be surprised if they're not working on one, whereas there's a much lower chance of say Nikon bringing out an 85 or 50 1.2, or changing their 70-200 approach (i.e. lacking the non-VR and f/4 options), though I will admit a 135 f/2 wouldn't be unreasonable given the late refresh of their prime lineup and the ageing 135 2.8 DC.

Unlikely Nikon will bring out an 85 f1.2 as its physically impossible IIRC

Why not, if Canon can do it?

Something to do with the mount size although I could be talking [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] ha ha ha

That can't be right. The 600 f/4 has 150mm aperture diameter, an 85 f/1.2 has about a 71mm aperture? Unless it's something to do with the mirror placement in relation to the mount?

Canon 8-15mm L??? (or 10-22 on a crop?)

Canon 8-15mm L??? (or 10-22 on a crop?)

The beauty of the 14-24 was that it was staggeringly sharp (as is Nikon's later 16-35) and wasn't a fisheye.

None of the Canon lenses, including primes, in the focal range are as sharp across the frame as the Nikon, and the 8-15L you mention is very much a fisheye (i.e. straight things do not stay remotely straight).
