I will be having my hair shaved off on the 8th March to raise money for the Lingen Davies Appeal which supports cancer care at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

In August 2007, my wife Lorna was diagnosed with breast cancer and following an operation to remove the cancerous lump she has been having a course of chemotherapy at the cancer centre at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Following this chemotherapy treatment she will undergo a course of radiotherapy, followed by tamoxifen and herceptin.

We have both found all of the staff at the centre extremely professional and very caring and Lorna has also spent time at the Hamar Centre where she has met other people suffering from similar conditions, all of whom have been a great support.

I am hoping to raise as much money as possible through the shaving of my head and if the total amount exceeds £500 then.........my prized goatee will go as well.

Now there's an incentive!!

There is a thought that the more people that click through to the image on flickr and fave it that it could end up in Explore, thus increasing the views and hopefully the donations!

I have set up a JustGiving page where people can donate online if they want to. Just click the icon below:

Thanks to Matty and the team for allowing me to post this here

Now over the £300 mark.............amazing!!!

Thank you everyone who has viewed the photo, faved, commented and donated

Looks highly likely the beard will be going!!

UPDATE

Well, one day back at work and thanks to all of the people who have donated and supported this I have now reached the target of £500 so the beard will definitely be going on March 8th

Thanks everyone, and just because the target has been reached..........don't stop!!!

well done Steve, i hope everything goes ok and on behalf of the staff here on TalkPhotography we wish you and your wife the very best and hope Lorna makes a speedy recovery!

Well, I am starting to feel really humbled by everyones generosity. I put a target of £500 for the beard going because really I wanted to keep it and honestly thought that to raise £500 would be a wonderful thing.

As it stands the total is over £700 and I am utterly gobsmacked.

I now believe that this could easily raise over £1000 which will be an enormous help to the appeal as a whole. I shall make sure the entire thing is photographed and you will all be able to enjoy my 'de-cloaking' so to speak.

Lorna was in tears yesterday when she saw an updated total, you have no idea how much this means to her. I am hoping to be able to go to her chemotherapy on Wednesday and take photographs of the facilites, staff, and the process of administration  which will all hopefully be used in an article for the paper that she works for in Shrewsbury, that should also help with donations

Amazingly, she did an article on the place when the appeal was lauched a few years back, little did she realise that she would be making use the facility herself!!

Thank you all once again for all of your support!!!

thats fantastic Steve, just marvelous!

Well, today is the day so I have to get through work and then it is back home for the 'Shaving Party'

I reckon there will be about 30 people there tonight with plenty of wine and of course I will make sure there are plenty of photographs taken which will be uploaded to my Flickr stream probably tomorrow morning!

After some more fundraising last night and a few more donations online the total is now well over £1700 and I think that to push toward the £2000 mark is now quite realistic.

I have been quite subtle in my promotion of this ;) but as we are on the last day of me with hair please, please sponsor me by clicking on the graphic below, even if it's just £1.00 every little helps!!!!

I would like to thank everyone who has donated so far, the response has been absolutely amazing

Good luck - just added my amount to your ever growing total.

Well, the shave night went very well and we raised another £200+ which pushed the total amount well over £2100

I have an extremely sore head but that mainly to do with the amount of wine I drank, not one drop of blood was shed during the clipping and shaving!

All of the photos were taken by my friend Colin and I think he has done an excellent job so thanks to him. That 24-70mm lens is stunning!!!!!

The photos are all in a Flickr set here and can be viewed in a slideshow by clicking here

If you enjoy the show and have not donated yet then please feel free to do so!!!!!

You forgot to shave the eyebrows :D

Well done mate, I will be able to add to your total at the end of this week

Just as an update, Lorna has had her final chemotherapy treatment today so just the after effects of that to get through and then we are both having a well deserved week off (well, part week) before her radiotherapy starts. She will be having radiotherapy for a month and then the final stage is treatment with Herceptin which she will be having every three weeks for 12 months. It's still a long way to go but now the chemo is gone we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I handed in over £900 today in the charity office and the organiser told me that she had accepted over £1000 from the JustGiving site today too. We are both absolutely chuffed that we have had so much support and have managed to raise so much money for such an important charity.

Thanks again to everyone, from both of us!
