Yes
Hi. I’m looking to buying some lenses for my Nikon. It has an F mount but all the ones I have found were build in the 80s and others have AF and FA mounts.

Would those be compatible with a Nikon d5000?

Hi.... FA is Pentax terminology. It is K-mount and won't fit F-mount.

For your d5000 you need AF-S, anything older won't autofocus (includes AF-D)... so you need fairly modern lenses for full functionality

Welshwizard645 is correct - if looking at Nikon lenses they must be AF-S type if you want it to auto-focus. Other Nikon lenses will be manual focus only and some will also require you to set the aperture on the lend too. All of this is explained in the camera user manual, by the way. If you don't have a manual you can download a pdf copy free of charge from the Nikon UK support web site here https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/22/D5000.html

Likewise, when looking at lenses made by other companies they need to be F-mount AND have the focus motor built into the lens (as the camera body doesn't have a focus motor) if you want it to auto-focus.
