Evening all

it looks like i might be about to inherit my other halfs G3. its an aged thing and is V slow.
i know nothing about macs and the idea is for me to use it to learn what they are all about and why, in her words are 'the mutts nutts'!
basically i am wondering how easy they are to upgrade? is it worth it?
how much am i looking at cost wise and where the hell would i have it done?
just a few questions

any help much appreciated

Apart from the ram and hard disk I don't think there's much to upgrade on the G3's these days.

thats what i feared

It's not really worth the bother as the machine itself cannot be upgraded except as has been mentioned above, and the G3 processor cannot run the latest version of OS X. One thing which can be said for it is that you can use it to get to grips with OS X and the iLife stuff - specifically iPhoto - but you will notice quite a few changes when you do use a newer machine !

as has already been said, the only things you can really upgrade are the RAM and HDD...the G3 will take up to 1GB of RAM (PC100) and you should be able to get osx 10.4 running on it. If it still has the drive it shipped with you'll want to upgrade it as it was only 6GB!!

It might not be the best or fastest machine but it'll do to have a tinker with to see if you like

oh...you might want to find 10.4 on CD's as the G3 shipped with only a CD-ROM depending on the model
