Can you tell me what Portrait professional is please?

It's a portrait modifing software, essentially skin softening and face sculpting, it does do a fair job, although the default settings are a bit high for most peoples tastes, it's pretty simple to use, and quick. If you do a lot of portrait retouching then it might be worth the money, I have the older version (9 I thnk) but don't use it that often.

+1

The reviews I've seen rate it very highly and it was very easy to use when I tried a trial, but the defaults are very strong and its very easy to get extremely 'plasticky' results. If you dial it down and try not to get carried away it seems to work well.

Its probably worth downloading a trial to see how you get on with it.

If you are shooting models then I think it could have a use. Most of the images I've seen using it are either overly done obliterating the skin's natural texture or the subject just doesn't suit that kind of manipulation.

Just my opinion.

It works well, but as Jim says, it can be overdone and give a 'doll' effect, which some like, but I prefer to see natural beauty, just using it for slight enhancement.

If you have a number of portrait shots, download and try it out to see if you like it before you buy, or find someone local who can show you it in more detail.

I have it and yes it certainly changes the average person in the street to a doll like feature.
It is a good program and can be toned down so as not to tbe too harsh, I like it and it does work, easy to use

Personally I don't like the software at all, too fiddly and so easy to change the image beyond recognition.

I do however use the Imagenomic Portraiture plugin in Photoshop which is far far superior.

I. do like Portraiture but it doesn't have the face sculpting and the way it selects skin tone means it can confuse hair and clothing and soften those too.

When I run it I use the option to create a new layer and on that layer use the eraser tool to bring back the bits I want ie: hair, eyes lips and clothing.
