Anyone help please?

I can't find out how to open two folders on the screen in Win11. I want to transfer files from one folder to the other. I open one folder on the screen then click on the File Explorer in the task bar to open another folder but this only closes the first folder.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Ctrl+C to copy the files highlighted and Ctrl+V to paste them somewhere else. Or while in File Explorer, Ctrl+N to create a new File Explorer window. Or Ctrl+T to create a new tab in the current File Explorer window.

Dave, Mark, thanks both for the help. Really appreciated.

When File Explorer is open in a window - Right click the folder and select 'open in new window'.
That seems to be a much quicker way. Really appreciate the help Bodian.

I have multiple folders on my desktop, and opening one starts a new instance of explorer.

I click on "This PC" and open up a folder then click on "This PC" again and open another.

That's what I do. Select the drive, open the folders and drag and drop.

Have you tried.....

Win (key) + E to open Windows Explorer
Do this twice for 2 interactions of Explorer ~ navigate in each Window to your source & target folders as appropriate......copy from source to the target as needed.

HTH

PS this has been my way, as needed, ever since W7

The simplest method of opening file explorer is to have it on your taskbar so that a single click on the icon opens an instance of the program THEN just "Shift+click" on it again and a second instance will open - re-arrange to your liking on the screen and repeat as necessary!

Thanks John, I'll give it a try.

This is what I was going to recommend. It also works for most other applications as well so if you have something open and want an additional version loaded, this will do it for you which I find useful.

Looks like you've already received some good advice - so this is just a little fyi:

In folder explorer, you can click on the + button to open a new "tab", similar to a web browser. So you can select all the files you want to copy from Tab 1, and quickly switch to Tab 2 to paste for example. Additionally, from here you can use Ctrl+T to create a new tab, and Ctrl+W to close it.
