Can you edit this pic please

I took this picture last night of my buddy racing and I promised him that I would send him a copy. I know it's not a very good picture (i'm a beginner) but it's all I have. Problem is I have know knowledge on editing so I am hoping you can help me out.

Feel free to do what you like with it, I would really like to see it zoomed in with the starting lights in the background but it is up to you.

As you were discussing Lightroom / Aperture with me in another thread, I just ran the photo through LR4 - tweaked a few sliders and cropped a bit to give this result; not really claiming it's anything special, but I wanted to give an indication of what you can do with Lightroom alone.
