Yes
I messed up the exposure on this one :D
but it was the only chance I got of a shot of this Bahama Mockingbird against the sky in really bright light. I over exposed to compensate but think I've over done it.
this is straight out of the camera unsharpend just converted to jpeg
If I reconvert the raw to get the exposure right ,can I do anything with the white sky ?
or was it one of those times when I just need to go back and try for a better shot?

Here is a five minute play around with the image.

I applied contrast masking with a very low radius, the applied levels and added some contrast.

WOW Nigel, that's some rescue any chance of you posting more descriptive explanation of what you did?

crikey - excellent recovery work there!

Do a search on the forum and there is a tutorial on contrast masking which is an alternative to HDR and is much quicker to do, you can apply it on single image.

Once the contrast masking had been applied all I did was a levels adjustment and the brightness and contrast adjustment adding a little more contrast and reducing the brightness slightly.

Hope that helps, the contrast masking is the only thing that requires in depth explanation and there is a tutorial for that one.

Cheers

Thanks shutterman for the link :)
Its not a shot that I would normally keep but I may not see a Bahama Mockingbird again in a while !

No worries Pete, that makes it all the more worth saving.
