Hi Guys,

I'm not sure I want to pay the money for the fuji version and wondered if there's any off brand ones you'd recommend.

Also same goes for the battery grip. Is it only the fuji one that allows the power boost or do they all do the same thing?

The Fuji app doesn't allow bulb mode sadly, it's fine up to 30sec and works fine for that though. I've tested it out on a few cold nights when trying a spot of astro'. Been meaning to get a cable release myself for longer exp ... I'll add it to the ever growing list.

Does the app work in T mode? If so, with the firmware update, it might allow up to 15 minutes.

Canon RS60-E3 in the mic/remote socket.
:agree:That's what I use.

There's nothing fancy about a remote release. It's only a means of making/breaking a circuit.

If you are of a certain age you will have a push button cable release of the sort used on film cameras in days of yore. They are still available and will screw into the shutter button and work well.

I already have a canon one for my 5d mk2. I might give that a go. I was scared in case I damaged something.

Will the old fashioned one allow me to keep the shutter open as long as I have it pressed? I'm wondering whether this would be better than a newer one as it has no electronic parts.

The old fashioned one that I highlighted has a built in locking mechanism that will keep the shutter open until you release it. No need to stand with your finger on the trigger. Go and have a cuppa!
I have one in addition to the Canon^^^ . In use there is little to choose except the "old fashioned" one is easier to use in portrait mode with an L bracket.

Oops missed the last bit.
The simple Canon RS60-E3 has no electronics in it. It is just a set of wires leading to a switch.
The "clever" triggers that allow you to do intervals and timings etc run off a battery and they do have bits of circuitry in them.

Do any of you guys use the top max batteries and USB charger? £20 for 2 batteries and a dual charger seems crazy cheap.

Go for the Ex-Pro version. Not quite as (scary) cheap but well proven. Too many problems associated with super cheap batteries - do you really want to risk it (and do you really need to save so few £££)?

I usually just search for the item I'm looking for and sort by reviews. There's hundreds of good ones for both these batteries but I just wanted to check with you guys. I'll get the ex pro ones though as there's not much difference at all.
