can someone help me create a certain image please.

Basically i want to know how i 'disolve' one image into another so its half of one image and half of another but i dont want it to be blantently obvious id like it to be a smooth transition. but i have no idea how to do it .

with 2 layers have one image bg and the other layer 1 on the layer 1 use a graduated mask
