What would be a good start into film? I want something that will produce amazing high resolution images. I expect medium format?
Im looking to use it for landscape and portraits where I have time to compose.

Any ideas on where I could start at a reasonable price.

h'mmm amazing resolution on the cheap? Well I've used medium format Zeiss planar and Sonnar lenses and they were better than my Bronica Etrs or Mamiya RB67 lenses but the problem is they are not cheap. IMO you'll have to accept lenses at a close second which would be usually Japanese or you could gamble on Russian lenses which can be very good.

Hi Mart, if you want to look at a cheap way into MF (although your idea of a reasonable price may differ from mine) then either a folding bellows camera, I've had a couple of Ross Ensigns myself which were exceptionally good or a twin lens reflex would be my thoughts.
The Ross Ensigns (I had a 16-20 and a 12-20) can be picked up for well under a ton and something like a Yashica Mat tlr for anything from £30 to £80 depending on luck and condition.
There are of course many other MF options and the other boys and girls will be along in a minute to confuse you with much blather about Bronica and Hasselblad and all sorts of other tosh. Do not listen to them, they are fools and know nothing.:D
If you want to spend a little more and fancy the tlr route then Mamiya do a fantastic range of interchangeable lens cameras with exceptionally sharp lenses, you can usually pick up a C330 with an 80mm lens for about £180, maybe a bit less, maybe a bit more.
Hope this will give you a start. Let us know what you decide.

Cheers

Andy

Oh, and Brian will probably make you try and buy Russian stuff, I think he may be a spy. ;)

I guess it depends on what you mean by cheap, which is a relative concept. The lens on my Rolleicord at f5.6 and f8 produces superb results, approaching those of the Planar on my Hasselblad. The Rolleicord was a fraction of the price of the Blad.
