Hi :wave: I have just purchased a SB600 for my Nikon D80 and have a little prob. Is there a way of using the sb600 off camera without the on camera built in flash going off. Reason being I take a lot of photos of animals and with on camera flash they shut their eyes, with an off camera they dont and the pics come out brill. I have looked through the manual, (bear in mind I am male and therefore manuals are just padding for the box) :D and found all the settings for wireless but nothing to say about the built in flash being switched off. Thanks in advance

The flash will still be on but the flash that does fire is just pre flash signals for the sb600 it is how it instructs it to fire....

if you don't want a pre-flash or anything coming from the camera then you need to look at wireless transmitter, either infra-red or radio. Cherryrig will be along in a bit to sell you some skysports ;)

Can I sell you eBay Cactus Triggers first?
:woot::woot::woot:

Thanks for putting me right guys, understand now!
Erm Cactus Triggers? ? ? Care to enlighten or am I missing something and being dumb?
By way Shutterman got a battery pack for my D80 and thanks for Lens and Monopod, although spent a fortune in Tottenham court road getting everything!!!!!!!

Cactus are the makers of the radio triggers you get on ebay from shops like gadget infinity. Like skysports only affordable and a little less reliable.

Buy an SU-800 to put on the D80... Then you don't loose the CLS system like you would with any other wireless triggers. ;)

Hi Streviegee,

I have the D200 and SB-800 when I use it the D200 wirelessly to control the SB-800 the pop up flash fires at the sametime, you have to purchase an Nikon SG-3IR (IR Panel) which costs around £7.99 plus postage, it fits on the accessory shoe and blocks the pop up flash when it fires.

You can view one at Speed Graphic and how it attaches but they no longer sell them, however Kingsley Photographic Ltd still sell them but charge £5 for postage.

When searching the net try replacing the I with a 1 as a some firms such as Jessops, post it on their sites as SG-31R; IR stands for Infra Red.

As usual some excellent help. Will go look at your suggestions and maybe when I have recovered from the amount I spent in the last few days and my bank manager gets out of the hospital after the shock and allows me to speak with him again I will purchase more stuff that I dont need but must have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sheep, Have just ordered some cactus V2s to try out but have not yet managed to do what you have done, PM me please I will take you up on your offer to show me how. Thanks

Just to update I have purchased a SG-3IR and happy to say it works, bought from Kingsleys thanks for all the help. Just waiting now for my Cactus V2s as order been a little screwed up having been told to use ebay to purchase rather than the official web site. Dont think I will get them now in time for my holiday in 11 days.
