Yes
I've been sent an iBook, but I don't run anything Apple.
When I download it it will not open as it is an unrecognised file type.
Is there a way round this?
Knowing Apple I presume the answer is no.

Thanks. That seems to ant to convert it to another tablet form, but as I don't have a tablet of any sort it's not working. I'd just like to read it in some normal format - PDF maybe.

Calibre can do lots of stuff.

For one thing it has its own book viewer which lets you read anything it can read (so it should let you read an iBook). Also, it can convert to most other formats including PDF and RTF (which can be read by most things). Worst case, you can output in Kindle format and use Amazon's free Kindle app which is actually pretty good.

A PDF would be super.
I'll have another look at it. I'm not much of a techy so tend to miss lots of things, sorry!

Thanks. Calibre keeps saying it doesn't recognice the iBook format.

It's possible it has DRM on it. For legal reasons, Calibre can't open these files. For forum rules reasons I can't tell you how to circumvent it. But you might find @Hogboy 's link educational.

Thanks, I'd found it had DRM on it. I've also got it into PDF format, but it is 293 pages long - one line of text per page, and lots of black images. That's Apple's protection kicking in.

Apple are usually very helpful in these cases. Contact them and explain that you bought the book in iTunes without realising that it would not open in Windows. They will probably cancel the purchase and refund you.
