Can I ask a really stupid question? (INTERFIT EX 150 MKII)

Hi There! :)

I'm looking at getting this kit.

Firstly... what do you think?

Secondly...

It says that the lights have an infra-red sensor on them, which is great! :)

The only thing is, I don't have an infrared transmitter. But also, I want to link them to a Hasselblad 501CM.

To do this, can I just use the sync cable provided? Will the sync cable trigger the one which then sets off the other Via infrared - Or do I need to have a box that joins the lot via cables, because the hasselblad doesn't have a hotshoe to fit an infrared sensor to!?

I know this is probably a really stupid question, but I'm one of those people who has to know how everything works before hand! And I don't want to buy something if it's not going to do what I want, lol :)

Please help! :bang:

Thank you! :)

The optical sensor on the early version can be triggered by the onboard flash, but I found that gave sync issues with my 350D

I had to get a hotshoe adaptor (not included) to use the ex150 mk1 kit with my camera, but then I bought cheap radio triggers from Ebay to make it more convenient.

It isn't a stupid question, stupidy is when you should ask but don't...

The infra red slave will trigger either with infra red or with a flash that it 'sees' from another flash, so yes, you can connect via a synch cord to just one light, any others will pick up the flash from it and fire automatically.

But you may want to get a radio trigger instead, the cheap ones are generally considered OK in a small area and are much more reliable and much less hassle than a synch cord.

Your link is a good example of a selling page that doesn't give real info. It doesn't tell you the guide number, it doesn't tell you how long it takes the heads to recycle at full power, it doesn't tell you the height of the stands and it doesn't tell you which accessory fitting the lights have (as far as I know Interfit lights come in 3 'flavours' of accessory fitting, depending on which factory they were made in - Bowens, Elinchrom and their own, unique fitting - Bowens is the best because there is a wide range of accessories available at reasonable prices). Hopefully someone here can give you those answers, personally I wouldn't buy without knowing them.

I meant to add that the page also doesn't tell you the power of the modelling lamps. Personally I wouldn't consider anything less than 150 W if shooting on digital. If you're using film in your Hassie this becomes even more important, because dim modelling lamps will give a very inadequate representation of what the lighting will actually look like and will cost you a fortune in polaroids.

Ah right, OK! Thanks for all the replies - Very helpful!

Guess I'm going to have to push my budget up a bit to get some higher-powered lights?

Anyone got any recommendations?

I'm not looking for anything hugely professional and expensive, but at the same time, I don't want anything too cheap and flimsy? Sort of middle of the road, I suppose? ... Something to get me started!

I'm just looking at setting up a studio at home, you see - Would be nice to get some bits of kit together, but without having to rob a bank or sell a kidney!

Many thanks! :)

When I looked into it, the Interfit 150 & 200W kits came with just 60W modelling lamps. I wasn't that impressed with the build quality either, hence me going for the Lencarta kit.

Just looking into this again, sorry guys! >_<

I've just clicked onto the Lencarta one and the link has died all of a sudden! I wondered if this was the same one?

If so - What do people think to that kit? It's a little more than I was originally looking to spend, but if it's worth paying that little extra to get a better quality setup, then I might be able to stretch to it?

The website is bouncing around all over the place at the moment and orders have to be placed by phone, as the web shop isn't working
The reason for this is that the website has been comlletely re-designed (the old one was pretty useless) but it takes up to 48 hours from changeover for all of the web servers to be singing from the same hymn sheet. And the payment system can't be set up securely until that's done, so as security is No.1 priority online purchases have been disabled until all the servers are pointing to the new site.

I should just say that it's OK to wait another day or so until the website has sorted itself out and the online payment system is up and running - but other people are ordering by phone and stocks are going fast...

Ah, I see what you mean about it being all over the place! Thanks!

I think I might go ahead and order this one?

Clicky - Starter Kit
Good choice, a giveaway at the price - but stocks are getting low now so don't leave it too long...
The website seems to be stable now and is working properly.

Sorry if this is a silly question, too - Lol! ... :whistling:

Are you part of Lencarta?

The only reason I ask is that they say next day delivery - Is this still the case, cos I could really do with it for Wednesday, lol :)

Sort of part of Lencarta in a roundabout sort of a way;) Please see this thread

The cut off point for same day despatch is theoretically 12 noon so if you want it tomorrow you have 23 minutes left:'( Even then there is no absolute guarantee, but most do get delivered next day.

Aw, damn - No discount, then!? :P :D

Thanks for your help though, Garry - I'll take your word for it and go buy one... In the next 19 minutes, lol :)

Thank you :)
