I was fitting some new wheels to one of my road bikes and this fella crawled out. Not one I'm used to seeing and wondered if anyone knew what type of spider it could be?

Sorry phone snaps aren't great, but I hate spiders so this was as close as I was going to get to it (silly really given I'm 6 foot 3 and about 97kg lol).

I think it's a false widow, but can't be sure with those photos.

They can give a nasty bite - my ex-wife was bitten by one and it took months for the wound to heal.

Yeah one of the False Widow species for sure. Could be bipunctata.

If that's a white mark on the body then yes, very likely a false widow. We had one at work living in a gap between the reception roof and brickwork. There was an almighty buzzing, it had a bee, there was a long loud fight before the bee was silenced for good !

100% False widow, I've had one in my window vent, keeps popping out and grabbing large moths, the thing is about 40mm across the legs.

Great....will have to keep an eye out for the little critter as I have two kids. He was on the front on the drive, no idea where he / she is now. Probably working its way to my bedroom, ready to grab me in the middle of the night lol.

I really do hate spiders...I wont kill them, or move them if they are in the garden, but in the house ...well....its getting trapped and put outside (probably just come back though lol).
