Yes
Or even better does anyone have one for sale with a couple of lenses. ;)

Anyways. I am absolute newbie (as in had a crappy 35 and mi phone camera in mi life) Im thinking of taking a started course but have very limited funds. Any help is much appreciated

EDIT: I only said manual because I don't think I could ever afford a digital but I will stand corrected if anyone has any experience of a cheap one that just about cuts it

Hi and welcome to the forums
What sort of budget do you have to work with? You might be surprised what you could pick up a digital SLR camera for nowadays  have a look at ebay for canon eos 350d. You can pick one up brand new for £350, even less second hand. It's highly rated and is more than competent as an entry into SLR photography

Hi thanks for your quick reply. TBH I am probably looking at around 200 maximum to start with. You see I have these fads. Some of em last some of em don't. Can you think of anything worth buying. i have also seen these slr-type cameras for about 120 but they only have some of the features I think

You can pick up a canon 300d for that kind of money on ebay, but as above, i'd go for the 350d and sell on if you get bored of taking pictures

So supposing I decide to go down the manual route> What are good models in that field. I really can't afford £300. £200 was pushing it any way.

If you are looking for a film type SLR and not digital , I have an excellent Minolta Dynax 404si SLR for sale,£100, what a bargain.

I have a pentax me super with 28 mm 50 mm 135 mm lens and a centon f400 flash with off camera synch chord going for £175 or if you want a fully manual camera I can swap the me super for a pentax k 1000 pics available if you are interested

your £200 budget will be pushing it I think, unless you're willing to chance ebay. Why not consider something like the canon S3 IS? they're selling for around £200 now. If you catch the bug you can upgrade down the line...if not you've got yourself a very decent camera to have a bit of fun with.

Do not forget that with film you will be paying for the actual rolls of film as well as the processing costs so that cheap camera could quickly work out more expensive.

Michael.

Yeah im sure it could but im looking fro a cheap stsartup. Besides, I would just get developed to disc whihc is cheaper. I don't want to splash out then just waste it if I don't catch the bug.

Thanks

I take it that what you have seen offered so far doesn't meet your criteria :)

Hi shorn. Sorry I meant to get back to you. It would take me ages to save 175 mate. If you not wanting rid soon then I maybe able to have it off you. Let me know

No rush at all m8, I know the feeling. If you could say exactly what it is you require, we may be able to sort you at a later date :)

Thats the trouble I don't know what it is I want. I like the look of the one inkblot offered me above (but its only half the price on ebay) but don't know if it is any good. What you reckon

I just had a look on ebay myself for pentax cameras, looks like mine is overpriced compared to some........ but no way would I let it go for less than what I asked, it would be sacriledge :)
In fact I will go get the cameras and lenses out ands see exactly what there is in the bag.. back in two mins :)
ps can't comment on minolta as I have never owned one.

I'd suggest watching ebay for a while then buy a kit of any make with camera, lenses and accessories. You'll know if you paid the going rate and you will know what it will sell for if you sell it on. Lenses will most likely not be able to be used with modern digital bodies so the kit will just be for learning and selling on rather than upgrading - but you will learn a lot for not a lot of money.

no worries, get your posts up and you'll be into the classies in no time ;)

The sad truth is that you can pick up some excellent bargains on film cameras in excellent condition - their value has fallen to bargain basement level.

If I was looking for a purely manual camera and not dependant on any already owned make of lenses, I'd seriously think about a Pentax MX. One of the smallest SLRs ever made. It was never meant to be a pro camera, but the pros loved it for it's quality and took it up in droves. It's purely mechanical across the whole shutter speed range, the battery only powers the exposure meter. It came in black or silver, and it takes a whole range of Pentax lenses which can now be picked up for peanuts. ;)

Just had a look on ebay, there are some real nice bargains and equipment for pentax :)

Hi,

I can offer you a Yashica AF270 35mm Autofocus Camera with 35-70mm Autofocus Lens for about £60 including P+P, and for another £25 I can throw in a 70-200mm Autofocus lens and camera bag too so all in would be £85 for that lot.

I also have a Sigma 400mm F5.6 Autofocus lens that matches as well but it would be £75 on it's own.

All in good working order and very good condition.

Mike.

Just but a nikon F65 off ebay with Nikon 35-70mm F3.3-4.5 Autofocus Zoom Lens for 49.99 plus 9.99 p&p Can't wait for it to come now..

c'mon guys, this aint the classies. If we keep getting offers for sale we're going to have to start editting.

Hello there,
If its not too late to offer some advice - I'd leave the Pentax MZ60. It's not a bad beginners camera - but if you do get the bug then it doesn't 'grow' with you, as its pretty basic.
Its the first 'proper' camera I bought, but I soon out-grew it & ended up buying a Pentax ist.
Cheers
John
