Can a camera start to fornt focus after a while or not ?

Hello all,

Just for information. Can a DSLR (in particular a 40D) be ok one month then the next month start to front focus a noticeable distance ?
If it can start to front focus, then what how could this have happened?
 
Don't know if it can or not, but the problem could be in the lens and not the camera I think, if it's had a knock for instance.
 
I was talking to a few togs on Sunday about this. Yes it can happen, and it's usual the lens, a glass element may have moved. Canon can re-align/calibrate the lens at a cost.
 
Its not that ive got it to test.
I have sold my 40D and the buyer is now saying it is front focusing when i tested it 2 months ago on the same lens it was fine.

He says the camera is out and is going to get it serviced.

Just wanted to see if there was a possiblity i was being had over as he also wants the reciept of purchase.

He says it front focuses on 2 lenses (one i sold him and another of his own)

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I had two 40D's with front focusing issues and returned them both.
I think there are many users with this problem but they don't realize it, and are happy to accept the image quality they have.

Well, we had both done the same test using the test chart and his results are coming up idfferent, so i wasnt settling with the results, they were fine, but now they arent.
 
As has been said here before I think it's very hard to accurately test for that kind of thing yourself, certainly Canon can and it's best to let them do it. Was your camera still under warranty? wondering why he needs the purchase receipt.

Yes, its still under warranty .... well it was only bought in December, and the warranty card is still in there.
 
for your info Kinchy - the camera came back from Canon - it DID have front-focussing issues.
irrespective of when it occurred, there was an issue.
So, you were not being 'had' at all.

Canon fixed it (the camera) and confirmed the lenses were not at fault either.

now, they did it as a goodwill gesture as you have still not provided me with the purchase info details.

could I ask that you please send the purchase details to me... so i can 'close this transaction' off.

i believe I have sent you a number of e-mails regarding this already.
 
the purchase details, btw, are purely so canon can verify the camera is not stolen - proof of ownership, because the warranty card is never completed when the camera is bought, canon required a copy of the purchase details to verify ownership - that's all.
