How often do you upgrade your camera? Do you run it into the ground (Like I do with my cars!) or get it repaired as need be - Or as soon as the newest model is available are you eager to upgrade and (Barring financial constraints) go out and do exactly that ! Casting aside any sentimental value you had for your old one as you casually toss it in the bin :D... Or do that but keep the old one on the shelf for a run out now and again?

Went off on a tangent then! So to keep it simple I'll go back to where it started... - "How often do you upgrade your camera?"

Had my first dslr for 6 years with 2 years use then put it in cupboard
The upgraded after 2 years then last year got the 7d then this year the 5d mkii

So for me every 2 years
But now sold my old ones and kept the 2 recent ones
Bit sad to see them go
My first went through alot

Had my 50D for 3 years now, cannot see me changing it for a while, but I do have a bug to get a 7D.
Too busy buying lens's

What lenses
The 7d is worth it but wait for the mkii if it comes and see what the specs are

Ive got the mki 70-200 2.8 IS
And mkii 50mm
And love them
The 50 is the only non L lens I have now

I went from a Nikon D70s (6mp) to a Nikon D200 (12mp but heavy on battery) to my now used and much loved D300. However I still have my first "decent" camera a Voigtlander Vito CL 35mm camera which I had new way back in 1966 and still perfect apart from a little dust in between the lens easily removed I guess . Only took less than a dozen reels of film with it so its still like new, even the clockwork timer is in working order as seen in video. The top has a light sensor and in it an arm which senses light and another with a ring on the end. All one did was get the arm into the center of the ring and that was the exposure set. no batteries needs for this.

No remote control back then, the flash was from the Rollie flashgun which at the time was on of the top flashguns one could get.

short video of it working via clockwork timer

In the early days of digital I used to upgrade when a new model came out, however things have certainly moved on now and I find my current camera (Pentax K5) extremely capable, so much so that despite new models having been recently released I'm not interested in the slightest. The main reason why I may upgrade in future would be a move to full frame, which I'm still undecided about

With my early film cameras and compact digitals I used to upgrade on a whim, really. Since I started using SLR bodies (film and digital) I've only upgraded/changed when the one I was using ceased to meet my requirements.

I like reading reviews of new bodies and can even imagine myself owning some but unless they provide me with what I want then I'm not going to change.

I bought my 30D in 2008. It still does everything I expect it to, and I've never had any need, or desire, to upgrade it. I haven't invested much in the system though, and doubt if I'll buy another DSLR when it dies. I really prefer my F2 when I want SLR capability, and a compact for travel and social stuff.

The only camera I might buy is a good Leica M3, if I ever have enough spare cash. No particular reason, I just like them!
