Hello,

I would like to ask for some guidance. I have saved up around £3k to invest in an upgrade. I have owned a canon 50d with a sigma 50mm 1.4 and a canon 70-200 F4 couple of 580EX flashes, I got into photography about a year ago, and got really fond of doing portrait work (sometimes some creative landscapes but mostly shooting portraits).

I now want to buy a more advanced camera and a set of lenses that will work for portraits and weddings as I might be shooting a wedding in winter this year. I been looking at a canon 5d mk2, with a 24-70 2.8 and maybe upgrade my F4 to a 2.8 IS (not the mk2 as its too expensive).

Because my gear list is not big, I was thinking maybe turning to Nikon (as I have someone who might be interested in buying my whole lot thus I would loose any money of what I paid for the stuff) From nikon I was looking at the D700 or the D3.

For what I have described what recommendations could you make. (I havent shot with neither of the cameras that I am looking to upgrade to, only held them and Nikon feels much better in my hand but canon is not too bad as well.)

:thinking::thinking::thinking::thinking::thinking:

Thank you all...

I may not beable to help much, but when i got my first dSLR the deal breaker for me was the nikon handling, and the bodies generally felt more robust to me. I have invested quite a bit now in the nikon system, and i know a switch for me now would be quite expensive.
If your not going to loose alot of money on your canon gear than fair enough you can switch systems, particularly if you like the feel of nikons in your hand.
Other than that it just depends on how much money you were going to loose and if you can live with that, therefore me personally would stick with canon.

Yeah, as said you've really got to play with the cameras and see what fits best. I'm a bit too invested in Canon now, but whatever way you go you should end up with kit that's more than capable of stunning images.

If you do go Canon then the kit you[ve listed is essentially the wedding photographers ideal.

But I am thinking if I dont go canon and jump boats how do nikon lenses compare to the canon ones for wedding photography? (24-70 and 70-200)

Because I am not looksing money in selling my gear its like starting from beggining so need to make decision not only on ergonomics but lens selection. I havent used nikon flash system but I ahave its better>???

I know that the nikon 24-70 is an amazing lens, and have heard nothing but praise for it, i think it edges the canon equiv... but maybe someone will know better than me.

The 70-200VR is my dream lens however I dont really know how it compares to the canon equivalent.
