Hello all,

I'm after a bit of advice.. Ive read LOTS of reviews, some old, some newer and am now looking for some general advice about a camera upgrade.

I am an aspiring Pro-Photographer, earning a little here and there, but looking to increase the income a little over the next 12 months. I currently shoot with a 40D, which I absolutely love, but its obviously now getting a bit dated and with the likelihood of shooting weddings in the future, I'm looking for an upgrade that will see me through.
I don't have a huge amount to spend (around £800-£1000) and have narrowed my list down to the ones listed above.

In this price range, I know I can get a new 7D or 70D. Or a good used 5D2, however I know that i'd have to upgrade my glass too if I went FF, so this could be an instant non starter. On the other hand, I could be future proofing my collection by stepping up to full frame?

I was just wondering what everyones thoughts were and whether anyone could offer any real life experience?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

What about a 6d ? Under a grand, if you already have some EOS lenses, they'll go straight on and its FF.

My 50mm f1.8 mk2 works fine on there, my tokina 11-16mm works fine from 15mm to 16mm, loads of vignetting at 11-14mm though but its w-i-d-e.

Hadn't thought about the 6D to be fair!!

My current main lenses are a Tamron 17-50 2.8 and the Canon 50mm 1.8. I also have a Sigma 70-300 which i'll be looking to upgrade to a 70-200 2.8 regardless. I understood that I would suffer from excessive Vignette with my lenses?

Maybe I could rent one and try it out.

Echo what @Carlh has said a new 6D if you're capturing people / places mainly due to improved ISO performance, shallower DOF, very accurate low light centre point etc. For sports / action / wildlife stick with a crop body and the 70D would be my recommendation over the older 7D.

only vignetting when its a small focal, i have no issues on 24-105 (but it is a ff lens), you shouldnt get an issue with your 17-50, your 70's are safe :)

6d is good as it has the 5d mk3's sensor :)
