Camera storage confusion

I have the Nikon D40 18-55 kit and my wife also bought me the Kata-DC437 case and this seemed ok. However I bought a 55-200 lens and I store the camera with the lens on just like the diagram. My worry is that the new lens is longer and the camera is quite snug in the bag when the bag is closed. My question is: will this do any damage to the lens or camera.

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum.

If everything is now snug in the case, I'd imagine it would be fine since photographic contents are designed to be snug in a case/bag.

I have two Kata bags which are extremely well padded and protected. Don't know your bag/case specifically but if Kata designed it on the same principle of quality and protection then your stuff should be fine...

Cheers, what I am worrying about is that the lens be supporting the weight of the camera body and if this will damage the lens?

Ah ok, that'd be fine.

I store my Canon 40D with 300mm f2.8L IS like that, with the camera body at the top half with front of lens facing downwards.

As long as you have the lens cap on etc. it'll be fine!:)

Have had a quick look at the online photos of the DC437 and it seems it has a technical padding system in place. Camera and lens will be ok

No worries;)

You're in safe hands with a Kata bag. Their quality IMHO is unsurpassed You'd have to throw the thing to even risk damaging anything inside.

I do understand your concern though. I was the same when I first took up DLSRS and I'm sure many more on here were the same (if they're honest) :p
