Hi,

Well you can probally guess what im going to ask. Ive been shooting raw since i got my D-SLR i was using RawShooter but im now using Camera Raw for photoshop instead as it seemed like it had more functions and was easier to use...

... Was it a wise decision ... i dont really know

If you have CS3 then the raw plug-in is pretty much the same as rawshooter pro anyway.

Personaly, I don't find either of them any good for developing my raws, so I use Nikon capture NX for mine now. Yeah, it's a lot slower and crashes occasionaly but i get such nice results out of it I can live with it.

Have a look at Phase1's Capture too. It's a bit more complicated but also produces stunning results.

Main reason I ditched the others was that they seemed to introduce a lot of noise during the processing procedure.

I have CS2 which won't work with my d40x's .nef files (even with camera raw 4.1), which i'm not too happy about.

Have tried a couple of others in Bibble Pro and Dxo optics and was very impressed with both, although they are pretty slow on my aging machine. Might give Rawshooter a bash and see how that compares.

i used to use rawshooter and liked it alot, i found camera raw ( i presume we are talking about canons camera raw program, although i think you might be talking about nikons one! if so discount this bit!) horrible (apart from the fact it keeps the cameras setting so if you used black and white or tone settings in camera camera raw will retain them) rawshooter is alot better IMHO gives you more freedom and is easier to use.

saying that i havent got rawshooter installed anymore and ive moved over to lightroom which as well as being a very good raw processor (basically its rawshooter since adobe bought it) its very good for workflow as well :)

i think david relates to Camera Raw as within p'shop.

i have differing opinions on Camera Raw and RawShooter.

for routine event (many files) photography i use Raw Shooter, as i find the magnifier, slideshow and the dustbin facilities easy to use, plus the "adjustments" are quick and easy to execute on batch work.

for specific enlargements (one offs) i use p'shop's Camera Raw, but then i'm still learning .... obviously, the more i learn, the better the results.

cheers, d

ACR 4.1 wont work with CS2 at all, but does offer support for Nikon D40x.

If you want to use CS2 and ACR why don't you convert your .nef files to .DNG, you wont loose any quality and the dng file will still be convertible through ACR from CS2.

Here's the info about DNG converter and its free
