Don’t know if this is the right area for this post but here goes.

I am looking for some insurance for my camera as I have now spent a lot of money (to me anyway) and want to make sure I can go out and use it without worrying too much about breaking my gear. Once or twice I have not take a shot because getting into the right position to do so might have put my camera at risk. I have the EOS magazine and the Digital Photo Magazine and both of these have insurance people in there but just wondered who do you guys use and what’s the best prices around?

i'm insured with photoguard, i pay something like £9/month for £3000 cover (off the top of my head), beware though, when you buy something for your kit and want it covered, you get charged £5 admin fee for the amendment on your policy. I chose photoguard over E+L after hearing bad things, i.e most hatchbacks are not covered for in car cover due to folding seats etc which is totally ridiculous.

I have had mine put on the house insurance £5000 of cover including 60 day's abroad and £1500 of lap top cover for £4 per month :D

I'm looking for insurance that will cover my kit here in Ireland

If you are using the equipment as an amateur, you'll probably get insurance via your household policy, check with the insurance company though. Once you start using it to earn money, then it's no longer covered, as it is being used "Professionally", and you need "Professional" insurance.

Mne was put on the household insurance... but it was only £3 a month extra!

I dont see that working very well... so... I am going to check if I am covered for everything.

i'm with photoguard. my renewal just came up and there is more chance of me getting a sex change than signing up to another year with them.

Can you elaborate please? I was looking at both PG and E&L, the formaer wanted £43 a month the latter £22 for the same cover.

I do however need vehicle cover.

sorry, forgot i had posted on this thread :)

to cut a long story short i had £2500 worth of equipment nicked from a locked room. Because there was no sign of forced entry they refused to pay up.
They annoyed me the most when i insured my bike through them too (through one of their other companies). I locked it to the railings inside the secure underground car park in our apartment block. (the car park cant be entered without an electronic remote). They refused to pay all the claim as technically it is a communal area. So if you lock your bike up at night in the bike shed, you arent fully insured.

Thanks for that :)

Most of mine is covered on the house insurance but I'm nearing the limit of their cover so have to look about for new cover :(

i'm no expert, but i'm thinking that getting the right household insurance is as cheap and better than specialist insurance.

Not always, mine for example has a single item limit of £1500 which just about covers the 5D but wouldn't when I grab a 1Ds.

It's fine for what I need right now though and I know they will pay out etc when needed :)
