Hey guys, Does anyone have any good suggestions on Insurance companies for cameras and equipment? Ive been told that my home insurance will cover my gear but I dont 100% trust this and would like not to loose £1000's of equipment if this turns out not to be the case.

Cheers Guys
Mark

Most home insurance policies will cover equipment used for personal ( non professional ) use. However you need to check with your insurer if this is the case, and what if any are limitations and maximum single item cover value is applied.

If you are still unsure check out Adukki ( but watch the limitations on kit in car ) or Towergate Bakers Camerasure. There are others but these are the two that I have used over the last few years and found them to be reasonable, both in cost and there approach to insurance .

Unless your policy covers "All Risks" then damage to your equipment is unlikey to be covered. Theft may also have limitations. Best to read your policy or take advice from a professional.

Do a search on here. You will find lots of info. Just make sure you don't use E & L. Search and you will find out why. ;)

That's not a good thing to read. My gears all insured with e+l

Don't leave it in your car then. Unless you own a classic. ;)

You might do well to read the terms and conditions. Unless they have finally changed them. But I doubt it.

Mark, i have over £10,000 of gear on my home insurance with ESure, total cost for home and contents and camera gear inside and outside of house £185 a year, they need to see purchase receipts for individual items over £2,500

i just did the normal house and contents check on maneysupermarket and esure came out top (wasnt looking for gear insurance)

My gear is covered under my Home contents policy with lloyds TSB only limitation is a single item maximum of £3000 and its covered for accidental damage under the same policy, with a clause that if it can be fixed - they will arrange for repair as opposed to a cash payout- which is fair enough, as all my gear is worth less than £1,500

Welcome aboard Mark ;)

I've up'd the away from home limit on my Directline home insurance which will cover my gear for non-professional use even when it's in the car.

E&L have a caveat in their policy that basically means it's not covered in the boot of a hatch/estate (so not a lot of good to either of us  )

These guys seem well rated http://www.aaduki.com/ but not looked into the specifics....

Hi. I have the semi-pro cover from aaduki. Not had to claim on it yet, but seemed to fit the bill for me.

Or any vehicle that the boot unlocks with the cars central locking or you can access through folding seats.
When I was insured with them I had a brand new Range Rover Vogue with laminated glass side windows at the front, great security and it still wasn't covered.
After a long discussion with them, the guy actually agreed with me that 99% of modern cars weren't covered.
But an old MkII Jag would be covered.
