Camera gear insurance

I don't about a bargain, but I recently insured my kit with photoguard and paid £76 to insure kit valued at £2063.00 .
That was with excess of £250,hire of equipment and UK/EU+30days pa worldwide.

I checked my household insurance and was less than impressed with the cover offered for stuff like this.

I need to renew mine as well..... current premium is £213.98 for all-risks cover of £4501 plus business equipment of £20060 at the risk address (Imaging insurance). While I'm sure I don't need that much cover at home, I think it takes the premium up to the minimum.

They allow theft from unattended vehicles if the gear is out of sight and the vehicle locked.

Does anybody know of a company who does cover for professionals which has a lower minimum premium?

It's the theft from vehicles that tend to screw up some policies. There was a major thread about this some months ago.

I'm with Photogaurd. And there seems to be no major constraints about leaving kit in the car. Provided the car has all the normal alarms and anti theft devices. Did check out another company that was cheaper but they had a curfew on equipment of 21.00 hrs. The only exception was if the equipment was in transit

Try Aaduki (I think this is how you spell it or aoduki). I've just insured 9500 quids worth of stuff for £17 a month (200 quid a year). Very good customer service aswell.
Mark.

I'm with Imaging now. Didn't like the restrictive conditions on E&L or Photogaurd. E&L in vehicle cover is worthless ( see my original thread on this for the full details ) so wouldn't touch them with a barge poll.

Just another thought on equipment insurance - I put some figures into the Aaduki quote machine; then clicking on "amateur" gave me a premium of £73.50, while for the same cover clicking "earn some money from photography" gave me a premium of £220.50!

I thought they required certain containers for the equipment that was in your car? That was my understanding of it, I would be happy if I misread it though.

I think that was the E&L requirements.

Photogaurd need the gear to be in a locked boot, or hatch ( With cover). They also ask for certain security systems such as Thatcham 2 or 3 . But when you check the Thatcham site you'll probably find you have them on you car anyway ( Immobiliser , alarm etc).

It all depends if you are insuring as an amateur or professional as well. If you need public indemnity you need the pro option
