Hi
I'm wanting to use my recently acquired Nikon D200 for hiking, walking etc. and would like to give it some extra protection - don't like the idea of dropping it on a rock or similar!
Wondered what users thought of Camera Armor, the rubber protective casing - does it do the job, are there any issues with using one, can the controls be used no problems?
I can get one very cheaply now, so am very tempted.
Thanks in advance

I'm maybe a bit paranoid but I wouldn't use one in case moisture got between the camera and armour. That would be a total nightmare.

I wouldn't worry about this too much, as long as you have your neck strap in place when shooting you should be okay. I think that if your camera hit a rock hard enough the armour would make no difference. Just keep your gear in a good camera bag/backpack then take it out when needed.

I've seen it but it's not for me as according to the law of sod if you do drop your camera or knock it, it will be the part thats not protected thats get's it, normally the lens:shrug:

I go hiking with a Canon 350d regularly and have had no problems without armor. I agree with subseasniper about the moisture problem. Get a waterproof bag or one with a wp cover (Lowepro Toploader 65 AW is what I use) If it rains and you 'just have to get that pic' then I take some freezer bags and some lacky bands to put over my lens (18-55 or 70-300) which both fit into the bag, incidently, and body! Thats it! No problems so far! The bag also slides onto my Rucksack waist belt.

There's always the embarrassment factor to consider.....

I agree with whats said, its probably more hassle than its worth. With regard to the weather, my D50 has got very wet in torrential rain on some rallies despite my best efforts to hide it under my coat or covering it with a chamois leather. I've never had any problems though, just taken it out as soon as I've got home, took the lens off, opened all the covers and placed it near the AGA or a radiator overnight.

I wandered all over the hills with my DSLRs - D50/80/200/300 - you're just as likely to drop it in town as you are on the hill.

If it worries you, and you can get one cheap, go for it!
