i use Azden SMX-30v for a very good reason with my camcorder.

Yes it is large but it is better than lugging around a stereo microphone and another directional one and having to swap over. This does both, Even as shown with twin XLR cable for the stereo or directional as this has 2 microphones in one unit. Getting a stereo microphone with an XLR I don't
think exists. they seem to be all directional ones. As for power it can use phantom poer from the camcorder or from 2xAA batteries . It auto switches of if using power from the camcorder. also has the usual switches found in microphones.
Next is how far does it pick up sound? a lot further than most.stereo or directional ones
example and sound quality could not be better. this is just a little distance of what it can pick up. I can even hear people in the road behind us
.
Most dircetion only ones with XLR connections are for close up use such as in a studio intervew type of thing
