Calumet Triggers

I was in my local Calumet the other day, and noticed they had a set of own brand triggers similar to the Pocketwizard Flex TT range.

Has anyone used these, and if so are they any good?

They were around £55 for a transceiver & receiver combo. Which is a heck of a lot less than the PWs.

Calumet do some clones of the regular Pocket Wizards, but not the Flex/Mini TTL ones.
 
No, they're just basic radio triggers, made by Phottix I think. They're good. There's a newer slightly improved Strato II version. Yongnuo RF-603 is similar. See also the RF-602 which is highly regarded.
 
Thanks for the info.
I'll have a look at the Strato II. Would rather get a 2nd flash head and a cheaper set of triggers than the more expensive PW if these would do the job.

The Mk2 version has an on/off switch on the transmitter apparently, which was a massive omission from the original. Great triggers though and very reliable with every flashgun I've used....
 
If you need PW compatibility (light meter radio triggering for example) I can recommend the Phottix copy of the PW but with a useful hotshoe. Flawless for me so far.
 
Calumet sell two types of own brand triggers, both of which (as mentioned above) are rebranded/engineered.

The ones that you've highlighted are rebranded RF602's and the more expensive versions similar to PWs @ £85 pu are rebranded Phottix.

Personally I'd opt for RF603's if your buying from scratch.
 
I had 602s, couldn't keep up with what I needed them to do (failing even at 20m ranges) so bought Tue calumet pws. They're great.

Both the Calumets are Phottix. Interfit also do the PW clone, the Titan Pro - about 2/3rds of the way down here http://www.interfitphotographic.com/Accessories/Accesories index.htm

I've just rechecked the Phottix site and hadn't seen the Stratos before.

So which came first, the chicken or the egg, or rather in this case the Stratto or the 602? :lol:

Calumet sell the Phottix Atlas (like the PW plus IIs) and the Phottix Strato (now multi II). They're not re-branded RF602s, and it seems the Phottix are more reliable and better built. Why would you go for the RF603s?

I take it you mean the Phottix Atlas? They look good, but I don't like the size of the transceiver for fitting on the camera. I prefer the Mini TT1 or Phottix Strato style.

The PW mini TT1 and Flex TT5 can sync at 1/8000 can't they - would a TT1 transmitter sync with a PW plus II (or Phottix Atlas) at 1/250?
