I have got myself a Minolta Autometer IV F primarily for use with studio flash and I have managed to find a copy of the instructions on line (which I have read, before any one suggests that
). I have had a bit of a play about with it but not yet used it in anger. A couple of things I just wanted clarification on if anyone can help that would be great.
When the read button is pressed, on the digital display the aperture f number is displayed, ok so far, after the f number there is a smaller digit. Am I correct in thinking that this is tenths of a stop? If so how do I relate this to the f stops available on the lens. What I mean is if I get a reading of 5.6 then 4 on the small digit, what should I be setting? Would that in theory equate to f/6?
Next question, I wanted to compare the meter reading with my camera, obviously the camera takes a reflected reading, and the dome on the Autometer is for a incident reading, so is there a way of taking a reflected reading with the Autometer or is it only possible to take reflected readings as spot readings with the relative attachment fitted?
Finally I’d be interested in hearing how others use their meter, I mean tips shortcuts etc. anything that helps speed up the whole process.
Sorry for all the questions, but like a kid with a new toy I want to fast track to the easiest way to use it!
