I have got myself a Minolta Autometer IV F primarily for use with studio flash and I have managed to find a copy of the instructions on line (which I have read, before any one suggests that ;) ). I have had a bit of a play about with it but not yet used it in anger. A couple of things I just wanted clarification on if anyone can help that would be great.
When the read button is pressed, on the digital display the aperture f number is displayed, ok so far, after the f number there is a smaller digit. Am I correct in thinking that this is tenths of a stop? If so how do I relate this to the f stops available on the lens. What I mean is if I get a reading of 5.6 then 4 on the small digit, what should I be setting? Would that in theory equate to f/6?
Next question, I wanted to compare the meter reading with my camera, obviously the camera takes a reflected reading, and the dome on the Autometer is for a incident reading, so is there a way of taking a reflected reading with the Autometer or is it only possible to take reflected readings as spot readings with the relative attachment fitted?
Finally I’d be interested in hearing how others use their meter, I mean tips shortcuts etc. anything that helps speed up the whole process.

Sorry for all the questions, but like a kid with a new toy I want to fast track to the easiest way to use it! :)

On my III the small number is tenths
So 5.6 3 would be 6.3 I guess

You can get different attachments that give you spot, more direct angle and reflected

If you using a dslr then you could just take a picture

Thanks Paul, what I'm asking I guess, is if 5.6 and small 4 is disdplayed does that equate to 5.6+0.4 = 6? I realise I would be probably then be choosing an aperture that is within a third of a stop due to the limitations of the camera. Just want to make sure I fully understand what the meter is saying.

I was more interested in comparing like with like reflected readings out of curiosity, I agreed I would use the DSLR meter unless it was a tricky subject, when it would be incident reading anyhow! Don't think I'll be investing in the reflected reading attachments, even if I could find them. I have the dome and flat diffusers.

IF YOU have thirds it'll be 5.6 6.3 7.1 8

I just try to get close
