Yup, as the title says, time to shout out and be proud! Seems the Sony alphas get a fan club on here! And LOADS of people are getting 450d's as their first DSLRS, so its time we got a place to all learn together!

So, what have you got for your 450d, what do you plan to buy, and how do you plan to use it?!

And PLEASE! Post your pics!

[S4]We love our canon 450d's![/S4]

I really considered getting one, and putting the rest of my money towards decent glass.

But I decided on a Nikon :D

I had a bad experience with my 400D, which put me off of getting another Canon......

Good luck with the thread

I got a 450d, with the kit lens and the EFS 55-250. I was using an OM - EF mount adapter, a set of ebay tubes an OM mount 2xTC and an OM mount 50mm for a macro lashup, damnable heavy, real hard to get any light, and suffered horrendously from internal reflections. I don't use that anymore as I bought a Raynox DCR250 instead. I also have an Ebay timer remote shutter, an EF T ring and a telesscope nose piece for attaching the camera at prime focus to my telescope. Here's a picture with all the OM lenses also... This was shot using my Z2 and isn't a good picture.

I think this is an absolute dream of a camera (although I'm sure the real expensive models of any brand are far better) and love using it.

Nice idea RAS. It's nice to know I'll be starting with the same cam as many other DSLR beginners at roughly the same time. Though that's not to say you are all at the beginner level that I'm at!

I'll be getting mine pretty soon. Not sure I can wait till potential xmas sales.

I just bought one too! Got it from here
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/289233/canon-450d-slr-with-lens-kit-305-wi/

It says it's expiredm but it's not.. it's in and out of stock all the time, so it's worth checking if you want a bargain!

Anyway, was playing around with the camera the day I had it, and thought I scratched the lens!! Turns out it was a grease mark or something.. gave it a wipe, and voila! This got me worried, and now I'm after a UV filter or a lens hood to protect the lens.. any recomendations for the standard kit lens?

Well here is my canon 450D and Bag.

Unfortunately can't use it yet :'(

I'm sure you will enjoy it, do you have an SD Card lying around ? If not grab one now, that way you'll be able to use it as soon as it's charged.

Great topic :)
As well as the 450D and the kit lens, I also have a EF-S 55-250 IS and a EF-S-17-85 IS USM lenses.
Crumpler pretty boy XL and a Lowpro 250AW bags, 2 x hoods, 2 x Hoya Pro1 CP filters, a rocket blower, a lens pen, a lens cloth, RC-5 remote, 2 additional batteries, 3 x 8GB SD cards and a Redsnapper Tripod.

Next purchase will probably be a 430EX MKII flash gun.
I would also like to replace the kit lens and the 17-85mm with one lens (to use as a general walk about lens and betting in low light with a bit more focal length. If anyone has any suggestions that isn't an L glass, please let me know) and also a wide angle lens.

L glass is way too expensive for a newbie like me but they will come later (I plan on getting a 50D later next year).

From what I've heard people saying I believe the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro is a great walkabout lens. It's certainly what I'd consider. :)

Another 450D user here. So far only have the camera, kit lens and a Lowepro Revo bag. Hope to add a Nifty Fifty and probably the 55-250 IS before I go on holiday next August. Also need to research filters a bit before I go as I'm sure they'd come in handy :)

Hi all I am a 450d user. It's my first DSLR and I am still getting used to it but enjoying the learning curve. Here is one of the better pics I have managed to take (well in my opinion).

I have a 4GB SDHC card already and got another one with my crumpler bag which I got from Memorycardzoo.com.
Also a tripod from Jessops, not the best but will do to start with, and see if I use it, and a Rocket blower.

By the way, what is the standard warranty on these 450D's?

A few bits I forgot to list... an 8gb SDHC, and 3x2Gb SD cards. A spare ebay battery, a Hoya Green UV filter and a Hoya Pro 1 digital lens protector. A lens hood for the kit lens, 2 rocket blowers and a sensor cleaning kit ( one of the rocket blowers came with the kit ).

My Crumpler bag is going to be a bit empty with just the camera and rocket blower in there, well until the New year when I expect I will be getting another lens, when I decide which one.

I dont have one, and feel all left out. All for the sake of two digits. :'( Anyone wanna be in my 400D gang? We'll go round and sort that camera-ist 450D lot out! :bat:

sorry 68lbs i just sold mine! otherwise i would join you, no where is the 50D club??

Haha! its cruel to see a 450d wrapped in paper. but it will be good to play with on xmas day. DEF get an SDHC card for it!

I'm hoping to get a lowepro 200AW from the missus for xmas, but also expect it to be hollow and empty without many lenses yet!

And maybe we should have made it a canon eos group!! haha!

450D here. Got a sigma 70-300 APO as well as the kit lens. Would really like a 50 f/1.8 as well but feel a graduated ND would be a good buy for all the awesome sunsets about.

Just bought mine. First Dlsr. Im currently at a 6th form, doing photography. But I am hooked, and as a result will be quitting at the end of this year to do a BTEC in Photography
I paid £297 for my 450d, with the boots offer :D I was unsure which camera to get, but it was too good to turn down imo. People said 40d would be better, but i was looking at £500 + with a lens , and thats 2nd hand. With the 450d, if and when i upgrade i can still sell at a good rate without losing much money. I am very happy with it, i just need to get to grips with ISO, Exposure and shuttur speeds etc ( i have bought understanding exposure :D)

So far I have bought a cheap £17 Tripod. It mainly going to be used for urbex, so didn't want to spend much, and also it has good reviews. I wasn't going to spend £50+ on one. It has a hook for additional weights if need be, so i am confident it will suffice.
I have also bought a Sandisk Ultra III 4gb for £12.
And then for my bag I have bought a Lowepro Flipside 200, it was £50 but i wanted something which looked good, offered good storage, and was secure and safe. This ticked all the boxes :D But saying that i was shocked at how much bags where!

I plan to buy a new lens soon, and i am 99% decided on a Nifty Fifty. For the price of it, imo you can't go wrong. It takes some amazing shots.

Only had the camera a few days, and haven't been outside due to me not having a bag, and also a Tripod. Reason for this is I feel i need one to get something good as its dark when i get home from college now :( I went for a walk without, but the results where not good, due to me not knowing what settings to use etc.

But I have taken lots of Macro shots so far, and am amazed of the quality.

Just a few, I am going to Blackpool this weekend, with my tripod etc so hope to get some good shots for C/W.

i've had my 450d for a few months now, and loving it, i got a package from jessops with the kit and tamron 70-300 a bag and a 4gb card, didn't take long for me to pick up a nifty fifty, which has been brilliant, it amazes people that i can take pictures without flash:nuts:........
but i did get a 430exII just in case i needed flash :D
i love being able to bounce flash off the ceiling
i got a set of cokin filters, grads and ND's, UV filters for all lenses except the nifty, and a circ polariser for the kit lens
have a few things on my chrissy list...a 5 in 1 reflector, david notons dvd, a raynox dc250 to play with, a sigma 10-20mm :naughty: will have to see what the missus thinks i need most.....
cheers all
marcus

Erm, hate to sound dumb, but what's a nifty fifty and why would I want one? :p

Nifty fifty is the canon 50mm f1.8 lens. Its £68 at jessops. Its a prime lens which means no zoom. And the f1.8 means its good for low light. Gives amazing results for the cash when doing portraits! Gives good bokeh, and all canon users seem to think its a great lens to start!

Apparently being a prime it gets you more used to looking for the shot instead of zooming into it!

Hi all

I'm a Canonholic and here's some of the collection EOS30D, EOS50D and a few odds and sods
cameras-2.jpg

And just today they received a little brother to play with and YES!!! it's a brand new 450D, posing with it's big brother and only used it about 6 times but it's a cracking piece of kit :D: I'm well impressed

I am a pround owner of a 450D. Only had it for a few weeks. Only have an SDHC card, and a couple of spare batterys from ebay, Jessops tripod and case.
I am a novice, but looking forward to learning more about this camera.

I have now changed my account, i am the person above :P

Heya, your old name, High Contrast, was that anything to do with their music? :D

I finally got mine last night. But only had chance to have a play last night at home when the battery had charged up by about 9pm, so was dark etc, plus I still don't know what I'm doing well enough yet ! :p

I got a 450D a few months ago.
I`m fairly new to DSLRs but not new to photography although the 450D as given me a renewed interest, I love this camera.

I just need to build the system up a bit now.

Yeah, just got my digital field guide book, so hoping that will help! As at the moment i just point at stuff in the flat and hope for the best!

Hi there i have one of these with the kit lens all warpped up and under the tree grrrr!!! I just need some advice on buying two new lenses, I like the Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS Zoom Lens and will probably get this (good choice?)

I am really stuck on a macro lens. Any advice please budget wise i dont know how much to spend neither so really confused:shrug::shrug::thinking:

So please help fellow 450 users!!! so that i can have fun over christmas

i think the 55-250mm IS gets great reviews at £190. But also consider the 70-300mm IS USM at £320, as its faster glass i believe, and gives a little extra reach.

I've read reviews that commend both these lenses actually!

I have the Kit and the 55-250. The 55-250 is quite an astonishing lens for the money and works really well with the 450d, I posted a few moon images, one shot and it's crop with the 55-250, and one shot and cropped at 600mm with my new APO telescope the crops are pretty similar. I use the 55-250 far more and it typically lives on the camera. I don't have a Macro lens, but now use a Raynox DCR250 attached to the 55-250 and that seems to do a pretty good job for now.

Is that 55-250 fast enough for Ice Hockey action shots? I've also heard people mention that the lens needs to allow more light in due to the sometimes poor lighting at some hockey rinks/arenas. Would this do the job, bearing in mind I'm on a new starter's budget, so can't spend silly money on my first additional lens. Like £300 is already pushing it! lol

I want a hood for my standard lens, but there's loads of different hoods about, and don't know enough to choose one.. any suggestions/links? thanks.

eerrmmm. I bought it second hand on here... It's labelled EW60C if that helps any.
