I have a Dell Ultrasharp 27 inch and a Canon Pro-100.
I also have a spyder 4 express which i have run through and calibrated all seems ok.
But when I print my prints are still coming out a bit darker than the screen image.

what do i need to do?

cheers

Seems to me you've only done a small part of the exercise. You haven't mentioned using a particular PAPER profile for use with the Pro 100? Or are you expecting the printer to manage your colours? Or if you are using a paper profile are you ALSO asking the printer to manage it too?
Dark prints are often due to the latter "Double Bubble" processing.

I have set printer manages colous and using the exact paper tye which is Canon Platinum Paper N pro

pictures on a computer screen are backlighted, hard copies are not is the reason. I find I have to boost the printer brightness settings to get more or less the same

In that case I can't help as I never let the printer manage this I always have my photo software manage printing specifying the correct paper profile for the paper / printer combination. I do this from LR6, CS6 and Capture One Pro 9.
Hope you solve your problem.

When you calibrated the monitor was it just brightness you adjusted ? or contrast too ?

You need to match the viewing brightness to the screen brightness. Simply your screen brightness is a bit to high. Set the brightness level , via the Spyder to a lower level, and then re grade the image and see if the print is a better match.
