Tried asking Google but it keeps showing result on how to create a calendar with Excel. I don't want to be told how to create a calendar box using software, I can manage thank you Google!! I only want to know what other people think of the 5 rows vs, 6 rows.

I would rather ask you, fellow photographers, fellow members, on what you think.

When creating a calendar box, I'm talking about a month, and not counting the row with the days (Mon, Tues, etc), so let's focus on the rows with the dates.

Usually a month have roughly four and half weeks. Thus if the 1st day was to start on Monday, you would have four full rows 1-7, 8-14, 15-21, and 22-28, leaving the 5th row to usually have the last 2 or 3 dates depending on 30 or 31 days, thus the bottom row would have 29th, 30th, and 31st.

But sometimes there will be a month when the 1st day starts on a Saturday or Sunday, which would result in the last few days with nowhere to go.

So either we create a 6 row calendar to fit the last dates at the bottom row, or keep the 5 row layout, and usually just put the last dates (ie: 30th and 31st) in the empty cells at the start of the first row. Thus a 5 row calendar looks like...
MON TUE WED THR FRI SAT SUN
30 31 1

Everyone is different, I was wondering what would you feel about this? Do many of you prefer the 5 rows and don't mind 30th and 31st moved up to the start of the row if the 1st was on Sunday? Do many of you prefer a 6 rows, even if it look funny that on most months, the 6th row would usually be empty?

I often don't mind the 30th and 31st being moved to the top row, but, I wonder if there are kind of people who seems to think it looked confusing and prefer 6 rows?

Design-wise, it makes senses to keep the same number or rows on all 12 pages of a calendar, so the layout will look the same. I would not think of 5 rows on most pages, then the next page got 6 rows to allow extra room for 30th and 31st. Design-wise, either 5 rows and move last dates to the top, or 6 rows on all pages.

What are your options or how do you feel about it?

Many thanks.

I had a play in Excel. I prefer 6 rows.

In fact, I had a look on Google images for monthly calendars and most of them appeared to be 6 rows too. Some have five rows plus two boxes on the sixth row as standard.

6 rows for me.

True, but I have noticed calendars with 5 rows.

But come to think of it, yes, you are correct, I do remember one calendar that have two extra boxes. Now that you jotted my memory, if I recall correctly, space after the two extra boxes is uaully taken up by some details, usually a caption for the main picture.

Noticed WH Smith selling a few calendars early, couple of them use 5 rows. How long before one of those pop up shops like Calendar Club will be up and running?

If it is staying digital/viewed on a screen then 6 rows - real estate is free

If it is being printed then 5, I want to have as much space as possible; leaving space for a 6th row is a waste, and having 5 bigger rows and occassionally 6 smaller rows would do my head in even more!

@Uneducated_Rick It is print I'm aiming for. So you want as much space as possible for a bigger picture by having a 5 rows, but are you the kind of person who is happy and cool with 30th and 31st being placed in the first row, or do you don't like it but just accept it and get used to it?

I'd prefer fewer lines so that the extra space is in the box for writing in - my calendar is the one where you can barely see the boxes & printed text for all the scribbles life admin I have on it!

I prefer 30/31 being on the first row to having the boxes for 23/24 being split diagonally and shared.

All that being said I usually have two calendars; a large one int the kitchen that has 30/31 rows and about 4 or 5 columns for different purposes and then a second with nice pictures near my desk that is for looking at & not writing on
